Quickley has to start, end of story. We need that offensive spark. I don't know why Cal rides him more than anyone. He makes 1 mistake Cal is on him so hard, but Ashton makes like 40 before Cal says something. I don't know why Cal won't start him. Our opening offensive efforts today was abysmal.

Quickley has to Start. End. Of. Story.

Guys handle criticism differently; good coaches know that. However, Quickley played 33 minutes so it isn’t like he’s in the doghouse. Whether or not he starts makes very little difference.

he had 4 game stretch where he played little minutes. Other than that he's been 30+.

Don't think it matters if he starts or not. Besides, if I am not mistaken he has started few times. I think he rotates with Maxey. Can't have all our guards out and no bench. Could get in quick foul trouble. I'll pass on that. Like someone said, 3 guards to finish.

Unless you dig a hole that is too deep to overcome. See USC S16 in 01 for reference.

I’d like to see Quickley starting myself but as long as he is seeing the minutes he should be seeing then I’m fine with it. Montgomery however needs to have his minutes reduced to about 10 minutes max per game. Brooks and Whitney need to be playing in his place as both have a much better motor and upside overall. Tired of hearing how EJ has the potential, sorry no he doesn’t. He doesn’t have the motor to play at this level, at least to the point to be as effective as we need him to be.

What does it matter who starts? It is who ends the game that counts. I see now why your avatar is Farsight.

EJ is uncomfortably bad right now.

Right now Whitney is not giving us nothing. I think the game is just to fast for him right now. I will stick with what Cal is doing.

We need quickley involved earlier and more often than he did to start the game today. He needs to start

I said brooks and Whitney. I agree Whitney isn’t giving us much but he also is playing limited minutes. Has only seen 20 total minutes combined last 3 games. Montgomery played 23 minutes today, which is more than brooks and Whitney combined. My point was brooks and/or Whitney had the capability to be a player that can help us in March, EJM doesn’t. Wish he did but he just doesn’t.

Whitney is not able to play at this level—at least right now. He got abused on defense when he played today and contributed less than nothing on offense. He looks shot first and seems to just get lost on both ends a lot.

I love the kid and I know he’s better than this, as I watched a couple of his games last year. I have no idea what’s going on but you can see Cal moving away from playing him more and more slowly each game. Cal really tried to play the kid today to see if he could
Have a breakout type game ala Big Nick.

But not only did he not contribute during his time in the game, he really hurt the team with his lack of defense. They went after him on almost every play he was in on defense.

I hope it clicks for him but now that conference play has started Cal will tighten the rotation and I’m thinking Whitney will continue to lose mins. He will still get chances to shine bright but not a ton of them.

Keep all guards fresh and rotate the three. Also helps with injuries and foul trouble.

You have to start letting Cal coach this team.

When will people realize starting is so overrated. Minutes are what matters and who is end at the end of the game

I think Quickley has excelled the last few games coming off the bench. His ability to back up the PG or SG spot is important for us. I don't think we have to mess with it.

Three guards. I think he should finish with all three guards .
This. We need a solid guard off the bench. If Juzang has proven himself, or if Allen was available it’d be different. IQ is our offensive spark off the bench at the guard spot.

Why do we need it if the bench? Just play your best lineup like common sense dictates. The start of the game was almost unwatchable. It was an ugly rock fight the first 10 mins of the game.

Because we don’t have another real solid guard to bring off the bench.

Our guards will need to play 33+ minutes against good teams for us to maximize our chance to win.

I thought about this during the game.. i dont know who needs to start.. but there are three guys I want playing as much as possible.. IQ, Richards and Sestina. All guys who can make shots in some manner.

Hagans is in there as well.
