Is Pass Interference not an automatic 1st down at the HS level?

I believe they have removed all "automatic" first downs from high school football. A little bit confusing because I have still heard refs say it this year, but most of them have told me the automatic part has been taken out.

It's just a 15 yard penalty. If it's 3rd and 20 and there is DPI, the offense will then have 3rd and 5.

Since we are on Rules questions: Isnt an illegal shift a dead ball foul?? Just like illegal motion?

Pass interference is no longer an automatic first down in HS. That changed 2-3 years ago. Illegal shift and illegal motion are NOT dead ball fouls.
