Did anyone watch the Quick Lane Bowl yesterday? BC vs Maryland. It was a perfect example of why 6-6 teams should not go to a bowl game. Or, to say it a different way, there are too many bowls. The game was a comedy of errors.

In addition to other snafus, there was a series where MD had the ball on the BC 1 while in Q4 and down by 9. MD fumbles on 1st down. BC recovers and on 2nd? down they fumble. MD recovers. 1st down at the 3. Sack. Sack again, Sack again. Missed field goal. Hard to believe RU was worse.

Meanwhile, Wake is showing why these games should be played. Fun football. Why would you want less of it?

Agree. But the fact u, I, and others watched is the perfect example why 6-6 trams go bowling. People will watch.

I was watching that game with a Maryland fan. He was extremely frustrated to say the least.

Watching Maryland's play calling was eye opening to say the least. I feel a lot better about our coaching staff after watching that. I can imagine Maryland fans must have been freaking out after the way the fourth quarter went down. The shovel pass from the 2 yard line going in rivals any play call made by Mehringer this past year.

Watching them run the play clock all the way down, over and over again, while being completely unable to gain yards must have been insanely frustrating. Then they get the ball back with a minute and a half, and they cannot even get the pass off. It was truly horrible football.

I get what your saying. It was a sloppy game but Rutgers will have some 6-6 seasons. You dont think they deserve a bowl game with the schedule they have every year?

The quality of the MD-BC game was pitiful. Bowl games should be only for teams with winning records. One should be rewarded for a winning record. Old school view. Rutgers team with Nova and company at Quick Lane would have beaten both of these teams by a couple of TDs.

Amazing how that was only 2 yrs ago and how much we've plummeted since then.

You never saw Laviano play?

I honestly believe that Hills is a worse QB than Laviano. Better athlete and that's why he had moments where he looked ok, but worse QB. Unfortunately we had nobody else that could play though: Piggy's arm is inaccurate (don't be shocked if he becomes a WR next year), and the other two guys were downright bad.

It is really not amazing at all. Even NFL teams rise and fall but in college it is far more frequent unless you are one of the perennials. We were in a decline the last few years of recruiting, we lost what... 10 Defensive backs in 3 years for off the field stupidity, and last year we scrambled to put together a class with the new hire. We had some talent and Sr leadership but nowhere near the depth needed for our schedule. Plus the Offense in the new system and without Grant was...you know.

We wanted to go to the BIG and now we have to up our game to compete year in and year out. This class will bring us back. How much remains to be seen. If we string together 2-3 Top 30 classes we can compete even with our tough schedule. We showed 2 years ago how much better than we were than NC even after getting blown out a handful of times in the BIG. So if we finish 6-6 we definitely deserve a bowl.

While on one hand, I agree that there are too many bowl games and that a 6-6 (or worse) team does not deserve to go to a bowl; on the other hand, I watched the BC-MD game and enjoyed it far more than the NBA game I was stuck watching on Christmas.

Shhhhhh. This is against the narrative a large, vocal faction of this board. Remember, Laviano's stats from 2015 were all due to Carroo. His 2016 status were all due to him, despite every DL living in our backfield and receivers that did not seem to be open often.

I think laviano is pretty good, but he's not a star QB like Gary Nova. Nova will go down as one of our top QBs ever.
