Questions on using Ryan Field tickets

I purchased tickets to the Rutgers game, and this will be my first visit to the new Ryan Field. The overall process of getting the tickets was quite involved. I had to install the TicketMaster App, and then the New Ryan Field app, and after that I was able to see the tickets. Finally, I added the tickets to Google Wallet. So far, so good.

My question is which app do I use to display the tickets and get into Ryan Field?

I would prefer to use Google Wallet, because that works even without a web connection. It is very reliable. However, when I view the tickets in Google Wallet, they appear with only a tap-to-scan icon and instructions to hold the phone near the scanner, as if you are using the phone to make a payment. There is no visible bar code or QR code. Is that how you do it at Ryan Field?

When I view the tickets with the New Ryan Field app, they display an animated QR code, and I think that would be my backup plan. However, I need a web connection use the New Ryan Field app, and at the old Ryan Field, getting a reliable web connection on my phone was always a problem.

So my question is which method to use? I am also curious if people have experienced problems getting the tickets scanned and read? If that happens, how does the venue deal with that?

Thanks and best regards

Game tickets just put in your Google wallet, I've had no issues. If you have a parking pass they ask that you use the app. There are bugs with parking passes for older androids

Wallet worked at Lakefront, but there was a little mixup with wallet at NRF so I had the ryan field app open and it worked.

Cell coverage outside the stadium is good. Inside is poopoo

Man, I would never be able to figure out that process. You mean there is no way to have some sort of printed back up?

Deeringfish, you are too frequent a commenter to have not seen all the complaints here from the old folks concerning printing backup tickets and then being ridiculed by the usual suspects. So I assume your comment was quietly sarcastic.

Astro cat- I am in the same situation as you. I too am going to the Rutgers game this Saturday and my first at nrf. I was able to download all 3 apps or whatever the hell they are too. Are you able to see the scanning part on apple wallet? I see my tickets and seats but nothing to scan when going to get in stadium. I see it on Ticketmaster app but nothing on wallet. ?? Is there a trick to it that I am missing ? Anybody know?

There are two ways to "scan" your tickets at NRF - you can use the bar code (that you're accustomed to and asking about), but you can also use NFC technology to "tap" into the game - there will be an electronic device at the point of entry where you can either scan or tap.

Whatever you do, I would simply ask that you (and anyone reading this) have your tickets actually up and ready to go as you approach the device...too many damn people playing on their phones and then when it's their turn they can't get the app to come up and then the line stalls.

A lot of tickets these days you just need to open them and hold the phone close to the machine. Magically it will recognize them.

Thanks. I’ll be ready to scan when at game. But what is nfc technology?

Thank you to all who replied, and special thanks to Sheffielder, who confirmed that you can either scan or tap.

In my case, I would prefer to tap, as Google Wallet does not need a web connection and works even airplane mode. I hope that gets me in.

However... if for some reason that fails, I will then try the New Ryan Field app, which displays an animated QR code, which can be scanned optically.

Once I am in the stadium, does the New Ryan Field app provide any useful capabilities? Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

There is a $5 menu for nachos, hot dogs, cheeseburgers, and (I think) popcorn, but you only get that discount if you pay with the app, which you can do by entering your credit card info into the app. To do this, scroll all the way down in the app to the "Unlock the $5" menu." May not be worth the hassle for you and the WiFi/connectivity inside the stadium is...spotty.

I really do miss getting printed tickets in the season ticket book. It was like Christmas morning when it would be delivered by FedEx.

No, I'm one of those old farts. I moved to the middle of the Ottawa National Forest in 1989 and lived there for 30 years. No cell service and very primitive radio base internet (starting in about 2005, no streaming). I didn't;t own a cell phone until about 10 years ago. Now retired the whole tech thing is still very new and uncomfortable to me.

I take some younger friends to the games and one is more more app savvy. So I just give the phone to her to make sure it is working properly. She makes sure it is ready and gives it back. Real issue is if you have to use the parking pass as you have to have that ready. There are people avail around the stadium to help

My son and grandson help me out a lot. But I can't put them in my pocket...most of the time. T
he other part of my problem is, I always hired a half a dozen High school students and about 30 College student for my staff. They could do things in five minutes that would take me an hour so I delegated. They grew alot, I ran a successful program.
