So Baker is the PG? Increase in PPG, APG, Steals Per Game?
Harper, Mathis ,McConnell & Kiss in the mix @ the 2? Hope they can FILL it up- we'll need
scoring from the guards.

Has Thiam added any weight or muscle...? I hope so since....imo he'll need to be more of scorer / threat.

Omuryi: what's next? I.e. does he take the next steps / become more of shooter / scorer? We'll
need him to help pick up the slack from losing Corey / Williams.

Doorson, Duke, Washington on the front line.

Any word on Hyatt??

Thanks

This team will probably be a mix and match the first month of the season as Coach Pike figures out everyone's role on the team. Someone has to step up and give Geo a break at the point. Geo at times needs to play the 2, so he can focus on scoring. The frontcourt looks to have fewer questions about the roles of each player. Duke and Doorson man the 5 spot. Eugene at the 4 with Carter as the backup. Thiam and Harper at the 3.
Right now it seems Pitt had the inside track for Hyatt. LSU might be out of the question for now unless they drop someone. Temple? Not sure. Louisville is a long shot. Rutgers has a lot of what to do. It might have something to with roster management.

You forgot Myles Johnson, who by all accounts was our best big man by the end of his redshirt year.

Lol... people are desperate to slot the most pure Small Forward/3 that we've had in years at any other position.

Most important question is how much more had Harper grown?

Okay so it wasn't just me. I thought I was seeing things lol

Got mixed up. We were in the running for a big from CA who chose Oregon State: Washington. My fiancée's daughter / son in law are Beavers.

It stuck ….it was wrong.

Respect my errors!~

I respect your errors and your decision. Duke is always tough to turn down. Thank you for considering Rutgers. I know you loved Pikiell and wished us well. Good luck at Duke!

As far as the post about the point guard situation, I don’t know what happens but I guess baker will start as the PG and then we’ll see who comes along as either the back up or perhaps the player to be named later becomes better so Geo can move over to the 2 spot. I think that’s more of a natural spot and Geos jumper and 3 point shot will be easier from the 2 guard. We need his scoring but we also have many more shooters now.

I think McConnell can step in as the point guard until Mulcahy arrives next season. We still have one other spot open for a grad transfer if Hyatt doesn’t come.

Why is Duke so hard to turn down? Do they break your kneecaps if you say "NO"?

We have board members who turned down Princeton to go to Rutgers (my roommate for two years is an example).

Note to Hyatt:
"Come to Rutgers and be part of something much BIGGER than the same ol thing.
Come to Rutgers and help lead us back to the dance.
Come to Rutgers and be the straw that stirs our team from worst to first in the B!G.
Come to Rutgers and be a leader not just another lemming as we take our first NC!"

I don’t know? Duke is a school that has turned out plenty of millionaires over the last 25-30 years. You’re on tv a lot, it’s an elite academic school for those who care and a hall of fame coach. Kids who can really play will get noticed anywhere but if you were in their shoes and could go to Duke or do something different like choose Rutgers; what would you do if you had no ties to Rutgers? I’m so rutgers brainwashed but these kids are not.

Princeton is a little different with the competition they play. Kids aren’t going to Princeton for a future in basketball. Geoff Billet turned down Princeton for Rutgers. It just depends on your goals.

Truthfully my senior year I met a cute girl from Duke at a Rutgers dance: Laura Palmer. She lived in Highland Park?

I thought "Duke, tobacco road"...she's NOT that hot....and never pursued.

If I was smart enough to get into Princeton, Yale or Harvard I would have gone ….but first I would have applied.

Dahntay Jones most likely never sees the NBA from his path at Rutgers. Just being realistic

Told this one before, but the woman I've been with for the past 6 years - bought Geoff Petrie's (Princeton, Portland/ NBA ROY, GM for Trailblazers) house in West Linn, OR. She met Kevin Duckworth / Clyde Drexler and the crew at parties near her home (many on that team lived in the same area).

Just found it ironic that she / her husband (deceased) bought Geoff's house...as he was going through a nasty divorce: We're all human!

Disagree: if you've got the talent, you make it. Stephon Curry makes it to the NBA from Davidson with only 1 other offer of note (V Tech).

Also if true then how did Greacen, Jordan, Bailey, Hinson, Copeland and Battle make it?

MO
PS Sellers too @ Detroit (though brief) / Dabney was a Lakers 3rd rounder (but didn't make the team).

Rutgers has turned out just as many millionaires as Duke over the last 3-4 decades.

I 100% percent agree with you and disagree with Bowlgoal on this — I would add that Dabney was fighting an injury and most likely would have made the team his rookie year otherwise.

I stopped reading after "cute girl from Duke" judging by their student section I don't think cute girls exist at Duke. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Come to think of it, no Duke recruit has ever mentioned Duke girls to me, when talking about what they liked on their visit.

Are you restricting your comparison to those working in athletic professions? Our enrollment is slightly higher (ahem) than Duke’s and comparing a millionaire count, in general, would be an unfair comparison.

Yeah, I see what you mean but I think in the context of the discussion it's still an apt note.

I’m sure they’re aware of the volume of cute co-eds down the road in Chapel Hill.

Duke may be an elite academic institution and a few Duke basketball players actually major in real stuff. Have heard, and maybe it changed, that most of the Duke players take classes as a group and major in a crib sociology. Not a challenging curriculum. Not open to the regular student body. Easy to stay eligible.

I met Dabney in 1985 when he was a sales representative for ???? something like IBM (don't remember). I was the administrator of a health / dental facility in Carson CA. Told him I was a fan and RU grad.

Too bad he didn't make it. Also too bad his daughter didn't follow in her father's footsteps (C- Viv)...probably the greatest woman b-ball player to date.

Usually it's the car they're going to get or the relocation of the family that gets them.

That is so far off base. Dahnty Jones would have been a higher #1 draft pick had he stayed at RU. He averages just under 10 points a game as a Freshman that was a pure slasher with no outside shot. He developed a good 15 foot outside shot by his second year and brought his scoring to over 14 points per game which was 7th in the BE at the time. He was also playing a lot of minuites against top tier opponents.

He was the man at RU, and his minuites reflected that. That is where you develop and he showed development at RU. When he transferred to Duke and sat out a year, he stopped developing. That BS that you have to practice against the best to be the best (Quote from Jason Williams when he was in Dhatny's ear) does not hold water copaired to playing the lions share of minuites against the best in live game action.

When he got a chance to come off the bench his redshirt junior year, he was more or less a utility player for them, and he was not very good at that mid range jumper anymore. Sitting out hurt him, and he was never the man at Duke so his development stunted. He got to the NBA purely on his freakish athletisism. It wasn’t on his resume at Duke.

Had he stayed at RU and been the man/go to guy, his development would have been much more. It was a mistake IMHO for him to transfer to Duke to be an off the bench guy.

If you want to talk about Billet, the transfer was good for him because he was never going to the NBA. His goal was to make the NCAA tourney. At the time, he had little chance of that at RU
