I could not be more disappointed with this year’s class. Through out the whole recruiting cycle I couldn’t figure it out. He landed Harper, Mathis, Caleb, and highly recruited Juco in Shaq Carter one year. Two years later he goes after three very under recruited players. Not a fan

I think Reiber has the potential to grow into a serviceable reserve in a year or two. My main issue since I first saw him is his lack of quickness and his very slow reflexes. There was a rebound yesterday where he almost appeared to have ducked because there was no anticipation.
He did a very nice job banging Garza last week, who is slow-foooted, in limited minutes until Pike rode him too long In the 2nd half and I think it might have cost us that game. The OSU forwards yesterday were not only physical but also way too quick for him.

The skills you’re referring to (or lack of) for the most part are developed in grade school Junior league.
You can’t teach what you’re describing, in order to develop skills, you’ve got to have them to begin with.

There were a bunch of people AFRAID Mathis would transfer because Pike wasn’t playing him enough.
And that was closer to happening at one point than people realize.
How many Power 5/6 programs are there in the B1G, ACC, SEC, Big 12, Big East, Pac12....75-80??
The poster says RU should have Top 100 kids.....there are almost 80 Power programs (i am including a Gonzaga and a couple of others not in a major conference).
I am not good at math, but if you have Top 100 and you divide by 75 to 80 programs, what makes RU special that they should get more than 1, vs 75 to 80 other programs??

Doucoure gave up his senior year in highschool to come to Rutgers and play center his freshmen year, I thought he showed some promise. Second year hurt his back, probably in weight room where he bulked up close to 250 lbs. Third year he missed the trip too Spain due to a passport problem, never got any time in games until well into the season. The few minutes he played he looked like a player that hadn't played in a game in over a year. this season he got some playing time in the first Ohio State game and showed some improvement in the Purdue game. However ,Michigan State never got on the floor, At 6' 9'' always ready to bang down low I thought he should saw minutes in the game. then its 2 minutes if that in the second Ohio State game. Seems like a great teammate,.

I think Pike would like to get to 2 deep at those 3 positions, and 1, 2, or 3 combo LG/2, 2/LF, LF/4 or 4/5, I think Pike saw Stefanovic, Weiskamp, Thorbjarnarson for Palmquist. Mag= EO, Reiber could be a hybrid, stretch 4/5 he has a nice stroke from outside/3 just needs confidence and experience. Mathis is a 2 Guard/defensive stopper, Ron Harper has LF skills and height but 4 body, and our most complete player healthy. Doucoure is Doucoure.
Depending on who returns or not for 2021-22, we will be closer to Pikiell's ideal team when Jalen Miller comes on board. If Geo or JY leaves or both, he will need 1 or 2 immediate eligible Lead guards from different classes. I think Pike is happy at the rotations of Lead Forwards and 5s coming back.

You need a power forward who can post up. That should be a priority for every program. Easy buckets close to the rim. We don’t get that in the half court offense. The problem is we all get enamored watching the positionless NBA and Steph draining threes so now all of a sudden everyone tries to replicate that because 3’s are worth more than 2’s. There is no reason for us to look this bad the last couple of weeks. You can tell me JY, Geo, and Ron are banged up all you want. I agree, they are. But if you actually have someone who can score with their back to the basket, then you wouldn’t rely so heavily on jumpers
I don't buy it, Reiber is a kid that didn't get a lot of exposure to AAU ball, not sure of his home situation in NC, and still developed into a standout player in NC at a Public School. Sometimes, head coaches like that more not having to unlearn bad AAU circuit habits and Reiber does seem to be another high IQ, coachable player that will develop into something with P6 strength and conditioning. The skills are there.
Math combined with rational thought is a potent combination that will be lost on 50% of this board.
One top 100 player per year would mean you have 4-5 on your roster at a time. I agree with your math and where Rutgers is in the pecking order, but asking for 1 Top 100 player every year shouldn't be a tough ask if Rutgers wants to take the next step.
You would think after last year's 20 win season Pokiell would have created more recruiting buzz.
When I see Reiber I certainly don’t see a guy who can help fill our primary need which is defense and rebounding. The kid needs time in the weight room. Supposedly he and Oskar can shoot. Not many game reps to validate that. Right now I would be pleased if Reiber could turn into a Chris Remley type of contributor.

Harsh reality that many dont want to admit. Think about our 2020 class, as far as legit commitable offers, reiber, plamquist and mag didnt have a single major offer between them combined.

he bangs but he’s always out of position and his reactions are incredibly slow. It’s as if he doesn’t understand the game at times. He used to have a little jumper but that’s gone too...probably by design. It’s not often that a player goes backwards but he has.

One of pikes biggest flaws is hes too nice. He doesnt go after impact transfers that want to come here because hes afraid it’ll make kids mad. Jahvon quinerly wanted transfer here, it was the first school he asked his hs coach to reach out to, pike said no thanks. Luther muhammad wanted to come here, pike said only if you dont try to apply for a waiver to play in 2020-2021. Dimencio vaughn had interest, pike didnt even listen.

Many people downplayed their rankings. While it’s true these can be off sometimes, there was a reason they were ranked as low as they were.

Literally my point. Getting just 1 Top 100 kid a year would be huge. Big drop off from Top 100 to 101-150. Baker was ranked in the 400s, and he has panned out and several of our other low ranked guys have panned out but it's not an effective strategy and one that can quickly go south.

Reiber can be a factor when he is upperclassmen. Unfortunately the holes in the roster require him to be a factor his first two years. Thats why some are rightly criticizing Pike's recruiting
For those folks questioning Pike's recruiting off a 20 win season, do yourselves a favor and research who Tom Young recruited off a Final Four appearance. I'll wait.
You do realize that there is a Top 150 and RU has as many as most of the B1G rosters....the NCAA caliber team last year and this year didn't happen overnight.
Young, Mathis, Harper, Mulcahy and Cliff all fit your agenda of Top 150.....you actually answered your own question.....obviously you choose to ignore Myles Johnson, Caleb McConnell, Geo Baker in your "not ranked high enough" nonsense.....or should we have ignored a grad transfer last year who was not actually ranked anywhere 5 years ago in Yeboah, when he landed at Stony Brook.
The best thing to do is find something else to look at, your wrong here unless you are saying that a player as a freshman who has played less than 50 total minutes of game time, has no chance to contribute down the road.
Iowa has built a top 5 team with guys ranked 101 or lower.
Wieskamp is the only guy on our team that was a top 100 recruit (#43 Rivals).
It can be done, Pike is a really good coach. Your team has some likeable guys (sans Mulcahy) and I think the rematch in Iowa City will be a doozy if RU can get turned around.

I think some major programs missed on this kid. Glad we got him when we did as I think he's starting to blow up. I stick to my thoughts on this freshman class and don't believe Reiber will pan out. Although he hasn't shown much yet, I'm still intrigued with Palmquist's potential.
I disagree 100% on this. I don't see him becoming serviceable in any way shape or form during his career here. He is soft and unathletic. I seem him as seeing next to no upside.
