Question:. Why do people change screen names?

I've noticed a rash of "newbies" lately that have been members for several years with few posts. Also just plain "newbies" which some are legit and some clearly trolls.

Why change your name? I'd like to hear from people who have because it's a serious question. Not intend to pick a fight

I actually have a real good friend that is a fan of another school (not saying which one) and he was banned from here for reasons I never understood. I've seen far worse posts in terms of insults, profanity, and rudeness by people still on here than anything he ever posted. I sure hope he wasn't banned simply for being a fan of another team....

But, anyways, he was on here with 3 different screen names (not all at once). He finally had enough...and I don't blame him.

Changed phones, email addresses, etc. due to some work restrictions with the new phone and was too lazy to migrate all that stuff. Quicker to take my old name and add a “2”...

Somehow my old screen name was needing email verification & they couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t letting me post.

I just today got fed up & created a new account. Similar to my old name though.

Some people are lying sacks of sh## and have to go hide for a while and come back with a new name. I had to change my name during the Pelini reign of terror. Jamrog was literally calling around trying to find out where I was. When somebody calls a family member looking for you.... It's why I try not to give out too much personal info about my family or where I live.

I had to change mine cuz my initial screen name was linked to an old email address that I didn't have access to any more. For one reason or another I couldn't get logged in so I said screw it and set up a new one.

I can recall back when posters changed handles because a high post count was considered as not having a life, just languishing on a forum board. Now, a high post count translates to...?

I was a gold member for years and was banned for a month. Deleted my sub immediately out of principle. I kept my handle and eventually moved to the Free Husker Board. With social media sports news these days, I’ll never go back. But to address part of OP’s point, at some point the site/Rivals erased my post count. Kept my years though.
