Does WV allow baiting for deer hunting? I was always under the impression it was not allowed. We've got a gut who's hunting in our neighborhood, against covenants, and he's baiting. Before I get the DNR and State Police involved, I was curious what the law was about baiting.

Apple pile. Has his trail cam pointed right at it and 2 tree stands 20 feet away, one of which points into public property owned by the county parks and rec.

I was going to let it slide until I saw the bait, and until he decided to get belligerent with my wife. To the point that this evening, as she was leaving for work he was leaving the development and they wound up on the highway at the same time, where he proceed to **** with her. It's taking a lot to not go down there this evening and **** with the stands, cam and piss on his apples.

Back in the day when I was in the state and hunted, the answer was no.

My cousins that still hunt in Preston County would probably shoot other hunters that attempted to "bait" deer during hunting season.

I've never had much respect for people that bait. From what I gather, in Berkeley County baiting I don't think is allowed.

What makes the situation sticky is I am in a lawsuit with the developer, who is the one that apparently gave this guy permission to hunt.

For deer it is legal in WV.

I think you're not allowed to put stuff like that out less than 30 days prior to the start of the season. I'd call the DNR to be sure - it can't hurt

I'm not so sure...of course I guess it depends on whether or not this situation is considered public or private land

Baiting and Feeding Regulations
It is illegal to bait or feed any wildlife on public land between September 1 and December 31 and during the spring gobbler seasons. It is also illegal to bait or feed at any time on Beech Fork Lake, Bluestone Lake, Burnsville Lake and McClintic WMAs and on Coopers Rock and Calvin Price State Forests (see pages 27, 29 and 31).

West Virginia has a hunter harassment law. If the guy has permission to hunt on this land and you piss on his apple pile you could get in trouble.

Deer are nothing more then rats with antlers. There are too many of them.

You cant hunt the land because of neighborhood covenants.

If you are a marksman, stay concealed distance and shoot his cameras first. Since he is coward enough to argue with your bride, he has no idea how crazy you may be when pissed off. If he comes visiting, you take the offensive and tell him he is a coward to speak to your wife disrespectfully. Don't ever let him put you on defense , particularly on your property. Don't follow him off your property.

If he is totally within his legal rights, that is a different situation.

My lawyer has a friend with the DNR, she's calling him about it.

I would have let it go, but when he decided to try and intimidate my wife, that's when he crossed the line.
