Individual. Better topping distribution means no bare chips at the bottom of the pile and fewer soggy ones.

Piled is fine and what I do at home. A longer, more narrow serving dish is immensely helpful for topping distribution.

That said, individual is better. However, I only get them at restaurants, as they are a huge hassle to make at home.

depends on if I'm eating alone or with some dubmass who intentionally tries to take all the good pieces (1 piece being as many stuck together as gravity allows)

There is something rewarding about one perfectly placed slice of jalapeno on each chip. My go to is single layer of whole chips on a reflective pan, no crumbs. a little leftover pulled pork on each chip, single jalapeno slice on each chip, healthy dose of shredded sharp cheddar over all of it, drizzle in bbq sauce, place pan in the oven, set to 350, pull it out when the oven reaches temp. sprinkle in chili powder broil on high for 3 minutes if it needs be be more melty/browned. The cheese that falls between chips gets crispy and awesome

A thin, wide layer ensures even distribution of the toppings. If making at home, I like to use a cookie sheet

Piled. Not even close. Individual is a tostada cut like a pizza. You go to On The Border.. you get individual. You go to a real mexican joint.. It's piled. Also at a real mexican joint, order no beans. They automatically double the meat to make sure the pile is full and you gringos want no part of real mexican refried beans.

I believe in working with and within the program. Don't mind piled at all. I do like putting mine on a flat plate. Easier to work with to me. Hopefully this won't be too controversial a opinion.

Oh, I like the flying M, too.

You want to spread them out on a cookie sheet so that you don't have more than a 2-3 chip layer. Spread your ground beef/chorizo mixture on top. Add diced tomatoes and diced jalapenoes and then put blocks of queso over the top. Put in the oven until the queso melts and enjoy.
