It is brainless to think turnovers and poor shooting doesn't matter in a point guard's game.
Cal has stated many times he doesn’t mind a few more turnovers. It’s a sign of being aggressive. He also says you don’t have to make them all, just don’t miss them all.

Well Boston and Askew believed him last season.

Is it accurate? I'd say it is meaningless.

He averaged 8.5 shots a game, total. That's almost exactly the same number as second year Tyler Ulis. On those attempts he averaged 14 points. That's roughly three more per game than second year Tyler Ulis. He only took 3 3-pointers a game. He scored efficiently on 2-pointers. And he had more assists per game 7.4 than second-year Tyler Ulis 7.0.

So, comparing him in some key statistical categories - points per game-- points per shot attempt - and assists to the SEC Player of the Year he comes off pretty well. And he didn't have nearly as much talent around him. No wonder confernece coaches put him on the All-SEC team.
Thanks for the logical, well-informed post. Crazy how so many posters on here look at a couple stats and write the kid off completely....like they even watched more than 2 Georgia games all year. He played 34 mins against us in January, finished with 10 points and 7 assists (only 2 TOs). Go look at Askew's and Mintz's stat lines from that game, sure doesn't seem like they enjoyed going against Wheeler.

Go to their late season game against Alabama. Anyone here watch it? Alabama with the modern offense, Bama with the solid backcourt. Wheeler did his thing against them. Finished with 18 points, 10 assists, and 4 TOs. Helped his team score 79 points against a really good Bama team. Kentucky's totals against Bama: 65 and 59. Y'all crazy for not thinking this kid can hoop

“Wheeler, a 5-foot-10 point guard out of Houston, TX, was a second-team All-SEC member in 2020-21 and led the conference in both assists (7.4 APG) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.68). He recently cut his list down to four schools, with Kansas, Kentucky, LSU and Oklahoma State remaining as finalists.”

I wasn’t a Wheeler fan but now like the idea of the SEC assist leader surrounded by four sharpshooters at UK. There should be no reason for him to be hunting his shot.

Well you guys are doing a good job selling yourselves on Wheeler, I'll give that to you.

Don't listen to the guy who has seen 10x more of him than any of us.

Its truly amazing how embarrassing our fans can be. Kid was second team all Sec. I'm thrilled if he comes.

I think a few concerns mentioned would be valid if he was our starting pg, but not as a backup! GREAT backup option!

This is how I feel about it. Assuming we get TyTy, we only become the team we want to be if he excels. Wheeler is insurance and fills our need for another guard. I just hope, if Wheeler comes, that he's ok with possibly losing a competition for starting PG and ending up off the bench. I'd be hoping we have TyTy, Grady, and Fredrick/Allen starting.
