Question about Wheeler

I didn't watch any Georgia games except for when they played UK, but checking out a Georgia discussion board I read this post about him:

"The problem is that he likes to shoot more than dish. He led the team in FG attempts by a large margin, despite all of the assists."

Is this accurate? If true, I am not too happy about us pursuing him.

Wheeler made 135 of 338 shots, including 18 of 80 from 3's. For comparison, Boston attempted the most shots for us, 103 of 290 and 30 of 100 from 3.

Wheeler could average close to 10 assists a game at UK, he will improve his average and decrease shots or find a seat beside Cal.

I haven't been too excited about Wheeler so I hadn't paid too much attention. What year is he? Was this at season his Soph year?

He did shoot it better his freshman year. 103 of 218, 47.2%, 16 of 50 from 3 at 32%. 4.5 AST's, 2.9 TO's. Maybe having Edwards drawing most of the attention helped.

So wheeler would more than likely be here two years? Doubting his draft stock eould be real high at 5’-8” tall. I know there are a few exceptions, but would he be a two year guy for us?

You would think so but he considered going pro this season and going by some of his interviews he plans on school for just one more year.

Wheeler doesn't excite me as much as other transfer options would have, but as long as we get TyTy, I don't mind him being a second option/helping to run the show early on if Washington has the typical Freshman growing pains.

I obviously don't like the shooting numbers and hope he can at least get his 3PT% back up over 30% with less of an offensive load on his back.
With other shooters around him he could work.

That's my concern. I get it a lot of kids use us to make it to the pros, but this guy is 5ft10 and he isn't Ullis and Ullis couldn't make it in the NBA. So I worry that he will be pushing hard and playing selfish if he has already decided he's going pro in a year. I mean I assume you mean overseas because I don't see this guy making the NBA. Not too many 5ft10 guys in the league these days.

Is it accurate? I'd say it is meaningless.

He averaged 8.5 shots a game, total. That's almost exactly the same number as second year Tyler Ulis. On those attempts he averaged 14 points. That's roughly three more per game than second year Tyler Ulis. He only took 3 3-pointers a game. He scored efficiently on 2-pointers. And he had more assists per game 7.4 than second-year Tyler Ulis 7.0.

So, comparing him in some key statistical categories - points per game-- points per shot attempt - and assists to the SEC Player of the Year he comes off pretty well. And he didn't have nearly as much talent around him. No wonder confernece coaches put him on the All-SEC team.

I imagine if Wheeler comes here emphasis would be put on distributing the ball. I saw him several times and it looked like he could get in to the lane anytime he wanted. We should have enough shooters without him having to shoot that much, but if he beats his man and has a lay up or 6 footer I'm sure Cal will want him taking those shots.
