I was watching a podcast talking about that play and it a thought occurred to me? If you're going to line up like that and overpower them, wouldn't it have made more sense to have Rodriguez taking the snap?

It didn't come close to working the 1st time we tried it. Kiffin was hoping so much that we would try it again. He took his final timeout based on this possibility, but CWS outfoxed him.

I wasn't talking about the overtime extra point. That just sounds to me like the play you are talking about? I meant the sneak that worked at the end of the first half. It worked but it took long enough that I was a afraid of a whistle that I think would sometimes happen. I was just wondering if that sneak play would have been more of a sure thing with Rodriguez instead of Minchey. But that would be Willie taking the snap under center instead of the Wildcat and maybe he can't do that?

We were extremely fortunate there. He was stopped and stopped long enough IMO the whistle could have been blown but thankfully it wasn’t and our boys didn’t stop. Rod could have taken the snap (anyone can) but you typically don’t have players taking snaps who are not accustomed to doing so. The direct snap in the wildcat is different but not a big fan of snapping the ball 4 -5 yards deep when you only need a half yard.

My question is on the 2pt conversion. When we lined up with Willie and the guy in the backfield moved, Kiffen wanted illegal procedure. I thought guys in the backfield could move as long as they got set for a full second before the snap (which in this instance never came). Any rules experts here?

The TO was called before the flag. It’s a non-issue.
My understanding is that was a wingback position (not on the line) and they do have a little more leeway with movement there.

On the tush-push LSU was lined up completely offsides so I don’t give a damn.

I was however, surprised at just how whiney some LSU fans are. Total crybabies. We may have broke some of them.

It was probably forward progress, but they were also offside.

From the sky cam in real time, you can pretty clearly see that he never really stops moving forward. The refs have a better view than what we're shown on replay anyway.

Agree with Cujo, too. LSU fans are whiny ***** babies like their sh*tsas coach.

Minchey’s TD was a relatively close call, and I can certainly understand why it was reviewed.

I have to say that I can’t remember another game where so many of the close calls / replay reviews went our way. Other than a BS roughing the passer penalty in the second quarter, I can’t really complain about the officiating in Saturdays game.

Agreed. I thought the punt return would be called back, and I couldn't believe the hit on Harris in the endzone that was called targeting was overruled (though I believe it was the right call as clearly he hit him in the chest). I was hoping that hit would take Harris out of the game because he was killing us all night. He seemed to have an 8-10 yard cushion from our DB's on every pass he caught and he was just a menace after the catch. How he ended up at Hawaii before any Power 4 conference is beyond me. That guy is dangerous.

I like when they don't overturn calls that are not obvious, meaning go with what was called unless there was clearly a mistake. Gun to my head, I'd say our guy was out of bounds on that punt return. But it's not obvious and therefore it was right to not call it out of bounds.

Close enough is good enough for me. If it takes more than 30 seconds to review the play and you can't figure it out then go with the call on the field.

I can see that, but the guy taking the snap isnt as important as the guys pushing IMO. Thats where he leverage comes in. Once the ball carriers momentem is stopped its the guys pushing that make the difference. And with so many bodies piled up in front any size guy can lose momentum from the snap so its the second waive that always makes the difference. Its like game of tug of war. You can have two teams pulling against each other as has hard as they can with the flag stuck dead in the middle, then a 4 year old can jump in one side and start pulling and it moves the flag.

We got lucky on that one this week as they could have easily blown the whistle because Minchey was stopped for a goog while and Willie and Co saved that one for sure.

Agree. We had a block in the back on the punt return TD that was irrelevant tot he outcome of the play.
When watching live I was sure it was a block in the back. Since then I've watched the replay about 10 times and I think my mind was filling in a pattern. It looked like the UK player was going to hit the LSU player in the back for sure but at the last second the UK player twisted his body to avoid it and the contact was shoulder to shoulder. It was a very near miss. The dice have landed well for us this year.

Nah it looked totally normal to me, no way to blow that by the rules. I looked it up.

In that play, the ball carrier can be completely off of the ground as the pushers attemp to hold him up and push from behind. It wasn't well executed and still worked.

Of course, The Eagles run that play better than anyone. There are several videos of them running it and how to stop it. Bottom line, stopping it takes some luck and/or poor execution. I think we'll get it nailed down. It really is almost unstoppable.

To answer your question, id rather have strong pushers. The qb is pretty much just along for the ride.

Thanks for the reply. The reason I was thinking about is that having a play that can get you over a yard almost all the time gives an offense a lot more options.

Yeah, the flag for the legal hit on their qb was an atrocious call...

If it’s executed properly you can’t stop it unless they don’t call the defender offsides.
