Hey guys I rarely post and I have an old recruit on the tip of my tongue and know you guys will come through. What is the name of the old center we recruited in like 2010-11? He pretty much didn't exist and kind of disappeared but had huge Duke hype. Appreciate your help!

The one that ended up going to Georgetown that never played because of a heart condition? Adams?

On a similar note, I see that Carrick Felix is in the NBA. Hadn't heard that name in a long time. Remember he was supposed to be a Dukie.

That sounds familiar, down to "Adams," and it also sounds like Michael Thompson, whom we really, really missed as a warm post body in the '04 FF after he transferred to Northwestern.

Huh. Wow. I totally lost track of him. I think he may have had challenges being admitted to Duke or something. He's the first and only juco recruit I know of. For a while, I think he was one of a handful of swings and misses by Nate James on the recruiting trail. (Nate was the butt of some good-natured ribbing back then not just for those misses, but also for the very players he was pursuing in the first place. He got demoted, basically, when Capel arrived, but like moving to the 6th-man role late in his senior season, he's toughed that out and earned some redemption.)

Looked him up. Felix apparently went to Arizona St instead. He acquitted himself nicely as a student, winning PAC-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year as a senior in '13. He was 2nd team All-PAC and an All-PAC defender. Drafted in the 2nd round. Bunch of D-League. 7 total career games, all that first year in '13-'14. He hasn't played this season, but he's been in uniform for both of the Wizards' games so far. We love superstars, of course, but there's something noble and admirable about that guy who keeps scratching and clawing to make it, too.

My memory of Felix was him de-committing as soon as singler decided to stay for his senior year - maybe that’s wrong but it’s what I remember

I think Adams committed to us then de-committed in the height of the ‘duke can’t get big guys’ era. He went to Georgetown but had to retire from basketball almost immediately because of a heart condition

Thanks Dattier.
