Friendly Challenge:

With all the QB hype around WG (well deserved), I began to reminisce about my time as a student watching WVU Football from the student section. I graduated in 2000 and was treated to some great COLLEGE QB play. Some went on to the NFL and had serviceable to very good careers, others peaked in college. My friendly challenge lays down the gauntlet to everyone to beat the caliber of QB play they viewed live while they attended school.

Marc Bulger (WVU)
Donovan McNabb (Cuse)
Michael Vick (Virginia Tech)
Matt Hasselbeck (Boston College)
Ken Dorsey (Miami)

I didn't include all Big East QB's but I don't recall the rest after the standouts. I would love to hear from anyone who was able to top this list. Kudos if you can...

Maybe it helps to attend school on the six year plan, which leads to better choices.

The years of school attended are usually equal to the amount of fun you have. That is how it was in my case. If it didn't cost so much to attend, I would be an 18 year senior...

Major Harris, Studstill
Browning Nagle, Jeff brohm Louisville
Alex Van Pelt Pitt
Glenn Foley BC
Tony Sacca, Kerry Collins PSU

Also interesting in looking at wvustats.com
It gives an all-time record and stats for each game searchable by opponent. Amazing how few times we've played certain teams. For example, wvu has only played Clemson two times. And never played them before 1989
We've not played South Carolina since 1/1/1995.
Only played NC State once siince 1979
Haven't played Kentucky since 1983.

Flutie was then, too

What's really crazy is the number of ACC schools we've played only in bowl games: North Carolina (2), Clemson (2), Georgia Tech (3), and Florida St (3). You'd think we would've faced one of those teams as a home-and-home non-conference opponent at some point, but no.

I don't believe we've played Tennessee ever. That is crazy.

We did actually play them twice in the 1960s. You may be thinking instead of the only other SEC school we haven't played, which is Arkansas.
Thanks for that. I was actually thinking of Vandy. Hadn't realized we'd played them.

We almost played Arkansas the year we played A&M in the Liberty Bowl. I was actually hoping for a matchup vs the Hogs that year.

Other P5 schools we've never faced in football besides those mentioned so far:

Big Ten -- Iowa, Minnesota, and Northwestern

Pac-12 -- Arizona, UCLA, Washington, and Washington St

Tennessee is on the schedule for 2018 as most of you know, so by then we'll be down to just Arkansas from the SEC. We've faced everyone in the ACC at least twice.

I'd love to face Arizona in a bowl game when they still have RR coaching them. It would be cool to see us play in the Alamo Bowl but Zona isn't likely to be any good this year.

Wazzu under Leach would be fun also.

Storylines galore in both those matchups, the media would love 'em.

I keep holding out on visiting San Antonio hoping that the first trip will be for a Mountaineer bowl game. Maybe this year with some luck.

With all the QB hype around WG (well deserved)...

Actuality it's not deserved but rather more speculation.

I won't do another breakdown of his experience as a starting college QB but will say that we're still 'hoping' he's all that...because despite his amazing undefeated record (before taking a banned substance) his stats don't say he's an all everything.

I understand your apprehension about WG. Don't want to get Ford Childressed. But watching his footwork, ability to move in the pocket, and the new-found bond with Sills, I get exited about the possibilities. Maybe my excitement is over-zealous or naive, but it has been a long time since I've seen a new quarterback to our system take control of the huddle as his teammates have attested to, and been the "field general" that could thrive in Dana's system. I hope we are both pleasantly surprised Orlaco. LGM...
