I think Quade would see more court time if he was better on defense. Cal could play a zone to keep shooters on the floor.

that sounds great, but that would require Cal running several offensive sets to get them good looks...

you know, other than the ONE play that EVERY opposing defense already knows he runs...both post players come to the elbow, catch the ball, hand it back off to to PG, kill 10 seconds, then hope SGA can create something with a desperate drive.

Sorry to sound a bit ridiculous, but Cal has really lost me this year. I know he wants his players to become more independent and create, but this team does not have John Wall, Fox, etc, and they NEED a coach that will get creative and design some offensive sets to get better looks on offense.

i was thinking of writing this the other day anyway. when we can’t score let’s say and he’s 2-2 in the game i think you run him some pick and roll more.
This is precisely what you see in the NBA night in and night out. When a guy is hot, whether he averages 5 ppg or 30, they get him the ball.

Shai and Knox have taken turns doing this, maybe it’s Green’s night to shine.

I was thinking the same thing while watching tonights game. The pick & roll was there all night and the man going to the basket was wide open. Instead, the man with the ball chooses to drive the lane into three defenders once again. Misses the "shot", no hope for a rebound, loses the ball...take your pick. Lather, rinse, repeat. Out of control BS which has no place at Kentucky. I don't care if this bunch leaves for the NBA or not...just as long as they leave.

Quade and Shai need to dish out more DIMES!!

This team is in desperate need of someone to create scoring opportunities for their team mates. Seems like every shot we take is either contested or off an individual move.

15 turnovers to 7 assits are ridiculous numbers for any team, much less UK!

Quade needed more shots tonight.

To be sure, though, that's not always the case:
@MIZZ 2/11
FLA 1/8
@TENN 5/14
UCLA. 1/7
KU 2/7

Green should take Diallo's starting spot. It's become so obvious that Green and SGA is our best guard combination, but Cal can be so stubborn, he just refuses to take Diallo out of the starting lineup.

He is probably concerned about the negative recruiting that will result from benching Diallo.

I like that cal is always recruiting. Hes about to start getting some really well balanced teams starting with this recruiting class. I see a lot of changes coming that are gonna benefit the future rosters like crazy. Coach K is going to be a step behind again stuck with top level 1 and dones that he doesn't have one iota of a clue how to coach a roster like that.

1. THe comments "Quade can't play defense" is so overrated. He isn't a great defender but he's way better and staying in front of his man vs. early in year. Also, outside of Vando and Wenyen to some degree....nobody on this roster is an ideal defender. Knox, Diallo laid back a few times and let their man shoot 3pter right over them. PJ constantly sleeps on defense and gives up open shots by not being connected to his man. Etc... Quade isn't way less defensively than any other guard on the team.
2. This team simply can't score in halfcourt. WVU was stupid to try to speed us up and let the game go helter-skelter as UK was able to score in that tempo. But since UL game...we haven't looked very solid offensively in halfcourt game and that is over a span of 11 games and counting. That being said...keeping scoring on the floor is paramount and you can't play Diallo much but need Quade and SGA together.

We're just struggling with poor coaching. When our offense is so awful, why walk the ball up the court? Why not speed things up? Cal wants to play the whole roster. I wish he would settle on 7 guys and play em. We get nothing from PJ or Diallo, yet I bet they both start the next game. The dudes can't get in any groove at all. Play a couple possessions & take em out. I knew when he took Vanderbilt out for PJ at the 2 minute mark, it was over.

Quade may or may not need more shots, but he needs to be the one running the offense and he needs more minutes. I like Shai and he can take over a game at times by himself, but he doesn't really run the team at all. Quade appears to have the highest basketball IQ of anyone whose getting regular minutes and he gets others involved. Given the lack of any apparent offensive direction by Cal, Quade is our best hope for playing like a team and creating easier opportunities to score.

Also, he won the starting spot earlier in the year, but lost it when he got hurt and Shai put up some big numbers. He's the better choice running the team. Shai should be the starting 2 guard.

Actually, I've been saying this for several years. It just caught up to him this year with a team that has lower basketball skills and IQ.

He is probably concerned about the negative recruiting that will result from benching Diallo.

Except he did bench Diallo in the second half. Diallo only played 13 mins last night.

That doesn't really fit into the narrative of a coach that will play his guys till the end because it might affect recruiting.

The real reason Diallo didn't sit sooner is because Cal isn't playing this thing game by game. He sees Diallo as an important part of getting where we need to be come March. Maybe he's right, maybe he's wrong. Who knows.

You can't just abandon guys because they aren't playing well.

Players are going to have fluctuations. They aren't robots. It's the same thing about Green. Yeah he's had some games where he hasn't shot well but on the year he's been our best 3 pt shooter and when he does get to the line, he's an 81% FT shooter.

I've been screaming all year long he needed more shots.

Who gives a ****? If a recruit can't understand that you earn your spot then we don't need their attitude anyway. Diallo needs to come off the bench until he earns it.

This is a spot on analysis. A Shai/Diallo backcourt is essentially playing both guys out of position. Shai is a more natural two guard, and Diallo, honestly, plays more like a three that just gets called a guard.

We need a true point guard in the starting lineup to direct this young offense. Green/SGA should be our starting backcourt, as it's plainly the guard combo that's worked best for us.

But I'm not sure it'll happen. For some reason, Cal just seems to have the idea locked in his head that Diallo has to start.
