I don't care that he only had to sit half a year, good for him. But his situation has made me wonder about eligibility on a broader scale.

So you get 5 years to play 4 (6 in extreme circumstances). He's played 1.5 years and sat out half a year. That gives him (counting this semester) 2.5 years of eligibility left.

So does he only get a half year his senior year? Seems to me that he's gonna run out by conference play 2 years from now... So how's that work? If that's what's gonna happen, it doesn't really make sense for him to petition to play this semester.

i think it will be viewed as him playing
1.5 years (3 semesters) at UK
.5 years (1 semester) at UW
sit for 1 year (2 semesters)
so i think he viewed as a RS Soph.

Looking back to when he transferred, ESPN said he would sit out until 2nd semester this year and have a year and a half to play. He got a waiver to play at the start of the year, so he will have 2 years to play - this year and next. If ESPN and Washington list him as a sophomore now, they are both wrong. There is no rule where you can play 9 games, decide to transfer, and not have that year count as one of your years of eligibility. There is also no "half season" eligibility. If you play at all, you lose the full year. Quade is a Junior and next year will be his last.

He never redshirted. He played his Freshman year and he played his Sophomore year. Just because he quit playing after 9 games his Sophomore year doesn't change the fact that he burned that year of eligibility.
You can play a percentage of a year and still redshirt when he transferred I'm guessing he used his redshirt instead of losing a year of play

Since when can you play a percentage of the year and still redshirt? Football JUST introduced the 4-game rule and no other sport that I know of has a similar rule.

I hope Quade does well.

On a side note, I wonder how much the Washington coaches tried to probe Green for info that could be used against UK, and then perhaps used it in conjunction with the Wenyen stuff to lure McDaniels?

Green wanted to run point at UK, and Wenyen saw himself as a perimeter-dominant wing player. I sometimes wonder if Quade was asked about his disappointment level at UK to help create a "we're more open to your positional desires than Calipari" narrative.

I understand that such a narrative would be BS, but having Gabriel's comments, Green's transfer, and Stewart's near-commitment to UK in the backdrop would give a ton of ammunition to the pro-Washington camp in the McDaniels recruitment.

It does seem in the recesses of my mind that there used to be a rule about not counting a basketball season if you played 20% of less of a season due to an injury but I have never heard of it for a transfer. There was a player that transferred mid year from UK to Louisville (Stone maybe) who sat out the spring and fall then played the following spring but each half season constituted a full season so he ended up actually playing 1.5 seasons for UK and 1.5 for Louisville. This resulted in him playing in four different seasons but only two were complete seasons while the other two were actually half seasons each.

Y’all forgot the rule that allows any transfer away from KY to be immediately eligible. Any transfer to Duke from UK gets an additional year ‘under’ Ratface.

Try to keep up.

i don’t see recruits running to them in this year class. Jaden and Stewart were not for us. Like Cal says all the time, Kentucky isn’t for everyone

I think basically the games he played for us last year don't count, same principle as a redshirt year

Well he used last year as a redshirt wouldn't that make him a sophomore

You can play a percentage of a year and still redshirt when he transferred I'm guessing he used his redshirt instead of losing a year of play

For my info: Can anyone confirm that the 30% rule only applies to FB and not BB also. 30% of 30 games is 9 games, the same as he played before quitting. Did he apply for a full year redshirt and receive it due to this ruleL Thus a redshirt Soph. Just asking. I couldn't find the rule.

Sorry I couldn't be of any help and find the answers you were looking for. It definitely wasn't for lack of effort or trying. Spent about an hour or so searching for answers that made sense and came up empty. Honestly, I'm still not sure I understand everything here but hell it's the NCAA.

I think he is confusing the old medical redshirt requirement. You used to be able to apply for a medical redshirt if you played in less than 1/3 or 1/4 of scheduled games (post season tournaments didn't count). I believe this is still allowed.

However, the first requirement for a medical redshirt is having an injury preventing you from being able to play. I don't believe Quade was injured last year.

So he has played 2 years, and has 2 years of eligibility remaining.
