After watching the spring game and last year as a sample, it's clear that laviano or retig are similar in talent. Retig clearly has the better arm, but laviano seems to be the defecto team leader. Just check out this video and see how Laviano jumps in at the end and teammates respond to him.
To me it's clear laviano edges out retig due to leadership. Retig prob has more talent, and if he can separate himself in the summer maybe that will be enough, but in the end they are both average and won't matter who starts. Our offense, if successful, will be due to grant and our running backs. However, if the receivers don't step- up, defenses will just zone in on grant.
I fully trust ash and staff in whomever they chose to start. fully knowing that neither of these guys will be in the conversation beyond this season. In fact, if oden can pack on 20 pounds this summer, he may still see some playing time this year.
I am hopeful that our defense will prevent some blowouts and the offense will be predicated on shorter passes to our playmakers.
