High level game so far with both teams playing tough d. Side note, Purdue runs the best stuff in the league on offense ( Iowa up there too). They have Ivy who is a lottery pick and can beat anyone 1 on 1 and two 7 footers yet they still run great stuff with constant on and off ball movement , a lot of staggers and flare screens for stephonivich. The ball never sticks and is moved quickly at all times. Great to watch.

Great game. I could see both of them in the Final Four. And Shell, spot on. The ball movement was tremendous to watch.

Painter is such a good coach. He’s got an all B1G player in Williams coming off the bench and basically playing half of each game….and the guy was the head cheerleader when he was on the bench. Looks like Painter doesn’t coddle anyone and doesn’t put up with any egos.

It was also interesting to hear that they do a personality analysis when they recruit a kid to feel comfortable that he’ll fit in the program. I’m sure other programs do as well but I hadn’t heard of it.

How did Purdue manage to bring in a stud big man (Edey) when he already had an all-Big Ten guy in Williams? I was told that was impossible and that's why we had to take a guy from a terrible MWC team.

Edey specifically said he went there because of their success with abnormally tall guys

Two of the best “teams “ along with Gonzaga and UCLA so far. I think these four teams are the best so far this season although I think Nova is a step below because of their lack of size . All the other teams have bigs that I don’t think they can stop

Matt painter is the best coach in the big ten ..better than Izzo...except needs thsr final four

He needs the final four to finish his resume
I agree; hell of a coach on both sides of the ball and a developer of talent . They don’t routinely get top 50 -75 kids

And to think, whispers were we faired VERY well in our secret scrimmage at Nova, not to mention beat UConn in the scrimmage at UConn. I know they were scrimmages and Nova's in particular was very situational, but still. Were those teams simply not trying against us? Lol

Purdue is legit. Going to get ugly at the RAC
Not so fast. It is still the RAC. We also normally play up to talent level last 2 years so hopeful that will happen as well.

Purdue is clearly the Number 1 team in the BIG 10 but after that it is a crapshoot from the early games. Lots of season to play.

Painter is doing what a lot of coaches are not willing to do (like Indiana).....they do not and will not take a kid who is not part of their system, they will not take a kid if he isn't willing to redshirt and they won't take a kid who is unwilling to try and be a good defender.

It took awhile to flush out some kids, but around 2014 or 2015, they lost two kids to transfer that were starters and double figure scorers and the Purdue fanbase went ballistic (except for a lot of fans who didn't like the selfish me-first kids who were transferring out).....instead they went strictly unto this mode of team first.....and while Indiana continues to pile up 4* and 4*, Painter (like Jay Wright) recruit kids that fit their model.

Indiana is now on their 3rd coach Tom Crean, Archie Miller and Mike Woodson and Purdue has beaten Indiana (I think) 10 straight times.....

I am not sure Purdue has enough talent to make the Final Four (they're still limited in some spots on the floor and inconsistent at the point guard position).....

When you also are willing to pick certain kids and they're willing to redshirt, you avoid having to go into the transfer portal......Purdue and North Carolina are the only 2 Power 5 programs, who did not take on a transfer in......they're connected and team chemistry is much better.

When you have kids in your system and stop mixing in new kids each and every season, you can add layers and layers to your offensive arsenal, because the kids understand the system better and you don't have to start over each spring/summer......

Really good post Hawk. But I believe they do have the parts that make up a whole for a Final Four run. Will they win it all? Who knows. Teams go on a run like UCLA did last year, where they almost didn't even make the tourney.

Both teams are very good-------certainly both can be Sweet 16 candidates come March-----from that point going forward who knows ? Sometimes it just boils down to hitting a big shot or getting a big stop.

Purdue goes 9-10 deep----that won the game today. They wore them out. Nova played 6 virtually all game yesterday and today. On back to back games that kills you. Supposedly they have 2 of their better young guys out injured . They'll need minutes out of those guys eventually or they're going nowhere.

Pikiell and Co., along with 8,000 raucous fans will welcome Purdue to Piscataway, on Dec. 9. It will be Purdue's first true road game of the season. (It played UNC and Nova at Mohegan Sun.)

After so much home cooking, I'll be interested in seeing how the Boilermakers play in front of their first hostile crowd of the season.
