Purdue opens as a -13.5 favorite. I was expecting more like -7.

Purdue a -13.5 favorite. I don't know what I was expecting exactly but it wasn't THAT. 😮

Time for more of the MJ "Nobody's gonna feel sorry for you" tour.

I think -13.5 sounds about right. Purdue looks solid. Our Rutgers win was really ugly. Our defense has to hold Purdue to less than 30 points to beat that spread because with our offensive line being truly offensive I don’t see us scoring more than 14-17.

I think Rutgers is a top defensive team in the conference and they had the Friday night home game advantage. That was a great gut check for the Huskers and honestly, our D looked better. Purdue will be tough.

Nothing will come easy for this team the rest of the way, but it could be a fun ride for the most part. White knuckle fun.

Can unfortunately see this one being ugly. Purdue was a play away from beating a good pene st team and that squad has some dudes on defense.

Good guys will not be able to survive another slow start, at night and on the road. Ross-ade is electric at night.

O'Connell can be a bit wreckless and thinks he's Brett Favre sometimes, attempting some head-scratching throws.

They will need to shorten the game, rush for at least 250 yards win the turnover battle and no mistakes in the kicking game. Boilers probably licking their chops if Hartzog has a lot of PT this week. Rutgers had middle-school level guys throwing the ball.

I hope if it's a L or an ugly one, it doesn't derail the improvements. Other than Michigan the remainder of games are winnable. Can't let Purdue beat them twice.

The Illinois QB makes his fair share of stupid throws and can be had. He's feast or famine and he can be pressured into mistakes.

One QB run would do wonders for our offense.
Which makes me wonder why Smothers hasn't been given a chance, I think he's a better runner than Purdy. The one thing I don't like about Whipple offense, he doesn't roll out the QB as much a he should and Smothers would be perfect doing it.

I don’t know. They did play PSU close, but they also played Maryland, Syracuse and Florida Atlantic close. As long as we have our key guys (Reimer, Newsome) and avoid the early big mistake(s), it seems like we should be able to be in it until the end.

O’ Connell pretty good but makes mistakes in games too from the games I’ve seen..

If we don’t play better on offense than we did Friday night it might not be a fun 4th Q..

Not a good matchup for us. Can they win? Sure, but it will take nothing less than their best performance of the season so far. The way they’ve played to date will not be enough.

It really doesn’t change anything if you run Smothers out there. They expect him to run. Ideally your QB needs to successfully execute a QB draw to slow down a rush

Or, have an OC who knows how to call plays to get rid of the ball quickly, and heaven forbid, MISDIRECTION every once in a while. Whip is not good.

If you want to run on the Purdue defense, the QB keep of an option play is what kills them. Just trying to power run with your RB hasn't worked on Purdue so far this year. Excited for this game!

Purdue is a better team and I think the element of surprise is past now. Opponents have enough of a sample size regarding Whip and Busch that I think they will have adjusted to anything we were doing differently before with SF. Besides, our O-Line is really having a difficult time, if we can't run the ball well from this point forward we may not win again, hope not but this is not something you can fix during the season.

OR maybe he is limited in what works with his current OL
If you set your line up to have predictable plays, the defense pins their ears back and attacks the middle of the field because that is where every running play is called to go and the QB drops straight back. He is the definition of insanity, keep calling the same plays expecting different results.

Smothers showed vs Iowa he has a good enough arm not to have to run it every play. Not saying he showed “last” year he had the arm to beat teams throwing it alone but definitely good enough to help us. From all reports back in Fall camp that Sipple got was he had improved arm strength and was good enough to be a 1. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Didn't say he had to run exclusively he can still do roll outs and if receivers are not open tuck and run. I would love to see Smothers at some point we've seen what Purdy can do and it's not much.

Whipple pisses out more offensive knowledge in a day than you’ve learned in your lifetime

What was AOC’s injury?
