Purdue in a close game with Oakland

Watching the Purdue game after NU’s win. Oakland is giving #1 Purdue a game and keeping it close in spite of Purdue’s height advantage. Oakland is a scrappy team with some good players. Worth checking out.

(Purdue pulled away late in the game after they started making 3’s but Oakland pushed them hard.)

I'm not surprised, particularly early in the season. My own view is that Purdue will get better as the season progresses, as the impact of Painter's coaching adds up and they start to gel. Painter is a great coach who gets a lot out of his players. Still, there's no way they belong as a #1.

There is a reason the pundits have BS as the best player in the conference.

Peep our conference slate, it’s brutal to start out even without Purdue. We do have a pretty favorable draw with Minnesota and Nebraska twice, but we’re gonna need to be ready to go early to avoid a terrible start

Nah... not really. I thought he was overrated earlier in his career, but obviously he's a good player. Don't forget... a lot of this goes back to the rivalry between he and Boo for best PG in the BIG. We all thought Boo was better, but the media kept pumping up this snot-nosed kid from Purdue.

I didn't watch the game, but Smith shot 12 free throws. That never hurts.
