It seems like Purcell has stepped up his game with what he has to work with. He sells Mississippi State and Starkville and that’s what I love about him. I remember when Stansbury was hired and Templeton told him expectations of the basketball program and Stansbury thought they were ridiculously low and told Templeton that. He didn’t sit back and just coast. Feel the same way about Purcell. And plus he’s gaining more experience obviously each year being the head guy.
I was disappointed in the way they faded last season and missed the tourney.
But he kept the two key players from last season and has added a lot of interesting pieces. They’ve got a potential superstar in Madison Francis to build around. I’d really like to see him start to look like he’s building something permanent this year. I want him to be successful here.
I don’t know who his projected PG is. It may be the sophomore transfer from Iowa State, Reese Beaty. She got a lot of playing time there last year as a freshman and they were an NCAA team. Cleaner, better PG play seems like a key for me.
