Good win. Can't believe this Duke team has won as many as they have. Some big balls. Basically a basket or two from being undefeated, which is nuts with what we have playing.

Lol... This one got me. As if playing with the AP Preseason Player of the Year, a 5th year senior who is one of the best in the country, and 3 players that played a major role on a national championship team is somehow an underdog story? And that doesn't even include your best player which is Kennard... Injured freshman or not, you guys have a boatload of talent. To act like Duke shouldn't be good is just ridiculous. You have a whole lot more than MSU does, so don't be offended when people call you out for not playing up to the hype.

That's important to clear up.
Oh it is. Last year, thanks to this guy and his handle, I was accused of being a "secret Duke fan" by several people, even though I'm from KY, am a huge UK fan, and have been a poster here since 2006. So each year when this Pukie pops in, people only remember "TheDude", and then I'm off to repeating the same "I'm not him" mantra. :)

That's sad and funny at the same time.

I want to take this time to remind everyone (as I must do every season) that I am not the same "Dude" as this Duke fan.

Thanks in advance.
Yes,I made that mistake last year and still apologize, damn shame the moniker is too close to the passive-aggressive dude

Duke has built up unreasonable expectations for these freshman, and it's no one's fault but their own. When these three guys return, if Duke is anything short of dominant and if the players have any struggles whatsoever, it's only going to be amplified by the media. These guys won't be granted time to adjust to the game, or ease their way back from injury. They are expected to step on the floor and be lottery picks immediately. A lot to ask of three guys who have not played a second of college ball yet.

I only watched the 1st half last night (and also vs KU). But that Duke team just looks really slow. Now maybe subconsciously I am comparing them to our Cats, who are very fast. I'm sure Giles plays at a faster speed, IF he doesn't have hesitation worried about his knees. I'm not sure Bolden or Tatum will make them much faster, although they will improve the talent (especially Tatum). So when they are making shots, they will be tough to beat. When they are not though, they will be beatable, moreso than you would expect from a top 5 team.

Allen, his stock is dropping fast. I don't think he is a 1st round pick now, and I think it is conceivable that he doesn't get drafted.
Kennard's game is much improved, he might be better than Allen now.
Jefferson might not be drafted, or maybe he will. But he will be playing in the NBA for a few years, as a journeyman PF that does the dirty work. Have to appeciate what he brings.
Jeter is about what I would expect of Bolden, which is a guy who can give you a few good minutes and several "where is he" minutes. Maybe Bolden will be slightly better, maybe.
It will be interesting to see when Giles & Tatum start playing how Kennard & Allen & the FR-guard share the ball with them, as Tatum is known as a shot vacuum. Will that have the SR Jones, one of the few decent defenders they have, going from 35mpg to 10mpg?

It's hard to argue this Duke team has a lot of talent, once healthy. But I think as a TEAM, there are lots of question-marks and concerns that Duke fans should have (all of the above + the absence of a PG).

I was at our scrimmage and it's the only data point I have to compare the two, but I don't think Jeter and Bolden are anywhere close to the same player. I know many of you aren't very high on him, and we'll have to see when he comes back, but I think Bolden will give us a lot more than Jeter can.

I doubt it. Just more excuses. The media is not going after K.

Now, if I were Cal or one of his assistants, I would absolutely use it in recruiting, but I doubt he will.
