Alright had to post this the next day because I know tons of our fans blood were boiling last night after that horrific loss so I’m hoping we’re all level headed now. It’s ironic because just a couple years ago our fans were complaining about not winning and now we’re somehow the best team in the BIG10 and now we complain when we lose
. Truly ironic. Which means to the haters who are against pike on some days can’t even say he hasn’t done anything for our program because now our fans expect a win every night we play.
1. There were some Positives so I’ll start with that. Beginning of the game Reiber came out great and really gave us a spark down low with that dunk in which I thought would start getting our “stars” GEO and Ron going. Just wish pike played him rather than palmquist but palmquist showed that once he gets consistent he can shoot outside 3’s and of course put on a show with fouls
. Another positive is that cliff for the most part showed he can become a shot blocker for us and once he’s able to really learn how to read players going in for layups he’s going to be tough to score on. Last positive is Hyatt for the most part did as much as he could to bring some good energy into the game.
Now negatives: unfortunately the negatives of this game very much outweighed the positives. I’ll start off with the obvious, Our Leaders Geo and Ron couldn’t step up to the plate and make shots for us, and when they couldn’t they brought their energy down and brought the whole team with them. There were spurts on defense where Geo tried igniting some spark but PSU capitalized every time with shots that diminished Geos intensity completely. Paul, Caleb played awful games and showed plays like we’ve seen in the beginning of the season that were dumbfounded plays that could’ve been handled better which could’ve led to points. Mconnell thought he was steph curry once again and wasn’t a team player and tried too much. Paul did what he had to do but just couldn’t find the right easy passes making it hard for himself to find points or assists. As well as palmquist shot he also showed he’s not even close to being big enough for this conference and was just being man handled on the defensive end which led to him trying to be the main actor on defense which none of the refs were buying. I like his cockiness but when he does dumb things his cockiness just makes him look plain stupid. Our Fts were key and we didn’t make them which could’ve kept us in this game longer which sucks because they can make FTS with ease at home. Now let’s get to coaching. Pike always keeps the high energy it’s up to the leaders and the team to match it, and they didn’t. But pike at times put out lineups that were just mind boggling and everytime we got within 5 points it was as if Pike just threw guys into the lineup that told PSU to just end our misery and score 10 points in 20 seconds to put them back up by double digits. It was frustrating to witness. Because we could’ve won this game. But we didn’t because lack of effort on both the players and the coaches.
Now all we can do is move on and hope this game meant something to them mentally and they come out with the will to win at Maryland this weekend in which we should get the W. But with this team we never know until we watch the first couple minutes. Anyway, everyone be safe and stay healthy and as always GO RU! (Feedback always necessary)
