I’m glad he didn’t take off running more than he did.

Couldn’t believe he was able to elude 3 defenders and still got off a halfway decent throw on that last play.

He is actually going to be better than Aller I believe as he’s quick in the pocket hard to get at

I agree, re-watching that play a few times, I'm astounded he was not only able to avoid so many guys coming at him, but also get off a pass that was catchable. Luckily the defense stood tall and got the PBU. They would have won the game if that catch was made.

Good observation, Chiles still pisses me off just thinking about him a year later. We couldn't catch him, and when we did put pressure on him, he extended the play until someone was open or just took off himself using his long stride. QBs like that have always been Phil's kryptonite. Really hoping we have a game plan for him this year; which I assume is going to be these dialed up blitz packages that we've been running all year.

I think the PSU QB did an excellent job, especially under the circumstances. And that last pass, wow. Despite the tremendous pressure, he threw a perfect pass that only terrific coverage by Deshaun Lee prevented from being a completion that easily could have led to a game-winning PSU field goal. As I say in another post, I don't think Lee's getting enough credit for his coverage on that pass. He literally saved the game.

It's not a complaint. It's not even a statement he did commit PI. It's an observation that some refs could have called it.

I've said it once in two different treads. I'm a Hawkeye fan for over 40 years. I think Iowa could easily be 7-0 right now by merely taking away two tipped passes. That would be sweet.

He stepped up and played well, was very slippery back there, but I'm not sold on him just yet. It's not easy for DCs to gameplan for a QB they've never seen and have no film on. The more he plays the more opposing defenses are going to be better prepared for his game and skillset.

if he has eligibility we should try for devonte ross again. other than him i was a bit surprised that psu didn’t appear all that more athletic/ talented than us

His pocket elusiveness and that throw on the last 4th down play was scary good. We were fortunate that he had some inaccurate passes throughout the game though. That said, I was extremely impressed with his grasp of the nuance handoffs and interior motion that the RBs and shovel pass receivers were running. It kept out interior defense totally off balance. Mix that in with the option when #14 was in, and I thought their offensive scheme and execution of it wa pretty solid. All by a RS Frosh QB making his first start in a very hostile stadium. And, btw…ZERO false starts all game. Like, WHAT??? That was maddening for me given I couldn’t hear myself think straight yet somehow the QB and OL were in perfect step all game long. Props bigtime.
