Don't go in expecting it to follow the book. It doesn't. In fact it doesn't even resemble it. That's not to say it's a bad movie... it's a lot of fun.

But boy, is it different...

I read the book a long time ago so I couldn’t remember how close it was but it was a great movie I thought. We went and saw it in imax and it was really nice.

That it would be a gross departure from the novel was painfully obvious just from little bit of the trailer I saw. But I'm not terribly picky about that and can see them as two separate entities. Wife and I will be catching it this afternoon.

I walked out of it after about an hour in. The VFX and 80s nostalgia was cool for a bit, but the movie was lost on me because of how different it was from the book. I really enjoyed the book, and I wasn't expecting the movie to follow it 100%. But I was hoping that it would hold tightly to the book.

All that said, if you haven't read the book definitely go see it. The dialogue is painfully weak, but the VFX will make up for it if you're into that kinda thing.

I’d never read or even heard of the book. The wife and I just wanted to go see a movie last night and saw it had good reviews.

That being said, I really enjoyed to movie. It’s visually stunning and tons of awesome 80s and 90s nostalgia.

Thanks for the PSA. I read the book last summer and thought about reading it again so I would have ALL the details down. Now I know I don't need to reread it.

I LOVED the book as the references were from my time in HS and MSU. I played all those stand-up video games.

If you do choose to re-read I'd highly recommend giving the audiobook a go. Ubernerd Will Wheaton does an excellent job with it.

Is it something a 12 and 9 year old can see? My kids are begging to go see it.

I listened to the audiobook about a month. I had a feeling this would be the case because I only recognized a couple scenes in the trailer. Especially the scenes between Parsifal and Artemis.
