Hearing this too, and sounds like it was one of the issues with Plantz. I’m honestly shocked at the numbers at Provi’s lower levels. Are they really struggling that much to get kids out for football?


Before COVID, and when I had relatives there, every level had starters, second team, third team, scout team, etc. There were a ton of kids in the program. If the numbers have really dropped that much, it’s a shame to see.

I think everyone is overlooking a very important factor in all of this: the economy.
The cost of living is incredibly high right now, so it’s not realistic to compare today’s situation to the pre-COVID years. While I know there are scholarships, grants, and other forms of financial assistance available, and Providence is often very generous with those resources, the reality is that not every family has $17,000 available to pay out of pocket each year.
Financial aid can help, but it doesn’t eliminate the financial burden for everyone. That’s an important consideration when discussing affordability and accessibility.

Getting back to actual football...I think this result would have been extremely possible even if all the other nonsense at Provi hadn't happened. The timing just feeds the narrative.

Right. But would Provi had played better without the distractions? How does one quantify the impact on Provi’s preparation or collective state of mind? It’s an impossible call, but this was a very predictable result given their circumstances.

So true.
Couple that with the decline in number of high school age students in the state (and across the nation).
Look at frequency of public school consolidations and/or closures we have witnessed across the state and it is a shrinking pool.

You cannot give athletic scholarships in the state of IL. There are criteria that you may select for the recipients but athletics is not one of them. If the $ the Plantz family donated to the school was in the form of an endowed scholarship in their name -- opposed to capital funds-- and the head coach of the football team was deciding who gets said scholarship... well that's a giant no-no. *this happens everywhere folks, but you rarely hear the quite part out loud, even on a message board*

Another reason why private schools should be FOIA, will never happen but this does happen everywhere

Could there be a potential Providence versus Kankakee in the title game not sure how the brackets line up. Has that ever happened before 2 schools dismissed their HC in season and make the title game

Good question. Didn't know Kankakee dismissed their HC. They are looking very good with wins over much larger schools in Edwardsville and LWW and a very respectable loss by only 8 to LWE. I'm thinking both Provi and Kankakee would be in the 5A South bracket, though.

The next game will be big for the Celtics. They play Fenwick on the road. Fenwick is good, but I think Provi is better. Can they shut out the distractions and beat a good Fenwick team? After that, they will lose to MC and beat Marian Catholic. Then, end the year against a very good St. Ignatius team. If they lose to Fenwick, I think they finish 5-4.

Official enrollment is 712 so closer to the number is said 650 than 800.

Gotcha. Our daughters attend Provi and I thought I heard the number closer to 800. I think it went up a bit from last year

Dont think we can attribute anything to the coaching issue. Naz was the best team PC has faced thus far and likely was always going go be a competitive game. It so happens PC lost, but had they won people would be here saying the team rallied around the new coach as motivation to win. Its all post hoc rationalization.

Ill leave it at PC had a solid schedule thus far and Naz had the highest expectations of opponents to this point coming into this season. They were probably always going to be 4-5/5-4 with their schedule, then go deep or win 5A.

Agree to disagree. Was it always going to be a good game sure. I think with out all the drama pc wins. They sure as hell aren't down 17 nothing in the 4th quarter.
