I agree that there needs to be structure. The problem is how you get that structure. This current solution again dismisses the people who are bleeding and dying to provide the entertainment. It is giving the one side all the power. Congress could just as easily setup the means to have negotiating groups for the players per sport. They don't have to be full blown unions. These negotiating groups through collective bargaining would allow the athletes to have some say in the process and give the same protections the colleges are seeking.
It’s definitely not perfect. But if the people “bleeding and dying” don’t like it they don’t have to play. But more importantly there is $50 mill per school to go around. Someone will replace each of them and the money will still pour in

And if the schools think the players are getting too much money, they can stop paying them without lobbying congress.

Yep. But if they stop paying them the program and then the school wither away. The players don’t have that problem. I just feel like what players bring to the table is vastly overrated.

If the players don't play they miss out on opportunities that are so valuable they are willing to sue over them.

That's why the two sides should work together to find a solution.

I’m all for both sides working together. But players have all the control now and they are able to sue for damages bc they the payments are completely misrepresented and being classified incorrectly for the vast majority. Time for some sanity and perfect cant be the enemy of good.

Yes that's a problem but don't fix it by legalizing what they were doing before and give the one side all the power again. setup a system by law that will even the power out.

It doesn’t change much of anything. Players can get unlimited NIL. But it has to be NIL. I would think this board of all places would want millions of dollars properly identified.

Yeah paying players $50 mill plus scholly is just like slavery.
The only reason they are paying that is because the players won in court to stop the indentured servitude system that was permitted all those years. That's what they want again. The only reason you give some industries monopoly protection is because they have natural limited competition and have to work in concert with competing businesses to make a league or association. Then breakup the NCAA all together and don't allow all these competing businesses to collude and limit what the workers can earn without their agreement. The Dallas Cowboys can't tell Dak what he can earn from Lowes and any other company he promotes. The NCAA did that for decades and wants to do it again.

And this bill wouldn’t limit what Kamario Taylor could make from Lowe’s as long as it’s a legit deal like Daks.

What's wrong with it is the athletes have had no say in it, and it only affects them. If you're going to cap earnings potential, then let them collectively bargain. I don't see a cap on coaches and administrators salaries, and those are ridiculously high as well.

Im not worried about the details of how its organized, as long as the players have a fair voice at the table. Show them the full value of their free education, and other benefits along with the actual revenue and expenses for their sports. Then negotiate a fair cap with them.
Well, there is no cap on their earning potential. The only cap(s) being suggested is revenue share from the schools to the athletes and that any outside NIL deal must be legit. If Gatorade is willing to pay a top-tier QB $25MM/yr that deal would still be allowed. Canon Motors paying a 3rd string QB at UMiss $5MM/yr would not be allowed.

Update...Senate will likely get the bill passed next week at the latest, but Johnson says the House will not take it up until after midterms.

House needs to adjourn to avoid dealing with Massie's attempt to impeach Hegseth. (I'm not being political..that's what's happening)
Also to prevent the Epstein Files from being released. Can't have pedophiles getting arrested, it will bring the government down according to the White House press secretary.

Couldn’t disagree more. No one is going to see the players. They are going to see their school play. You could switch out all the players tomorrow and everyone would still show up on Saturday.
Actually how many people show up to watch crappy players lose a lot of games? Bama, Ole Miss, LSU, UGA, UT and most big time players would love to go back to players not allowed to get paid. They would save a lot of money buying people under the table.

The current situation has just allowed more often a free market. Not many people like a free market when labor actually has power.

Oh, I’m all for parity, even if it is somewhat of an illusion(like Tulane and James Madison last year)in the form an expanded playoff. I just don’t think that the way to create parity is by going from a “who’s the best cheater?” model to “who can spend the most?”.

The NFL and NBA figured this out. MLB, on the other hand, has the Dodgers
This feels correct. The problem is that the athletes have to agree to some type of bargaining agreement. And the NCAA order some type of governing body has to have actual enforcement.

A salary cap will just have under the table payments like before.

Also 17 the Dodgers. MLB should have their *** kicked for all the loopholes they allow the Dodgers.

I’m fine with a free market if we accurately identify the market. What we have now is a sham.

also the portal is what has hit the bluebloods hard. Not so much NIL

Actually what we have is as close to a free market as possible. No governing body telling a team they aren't allowed to pay their employees above or below a certain dollar amount. No government telling a company or employee how to conduct business.

At the end of the day, this is entertainment and the market is dictating things.

Each player is essentially his own business and is negotiating just like any other business with their customers.

I will listen to that take a lot more when we call them employees and treat them as such. And call this pay for play. Until then miss me with free market talk

They are subcontractors and are treated as such. They just need to enforce all contracts to 4-5 years or whatever they agreed to.

They are subcontractors being paid under false pretenses to take advantage of the Alston decision. It’s almost entirely a sham. Its hard to enforce NIL contracts when you really want it to be pay for play
