From April 5, 2015, post in Avery Johnson to Bama thread:

Stansbury to Bama as a recruiter?

This has a chance to happen. Possibly a good chance.

I just saw this. I'm still a little surprised even if it makes a lot of sense since Stansbury knows the area. Johnson needs to move quick on his assistant coaching hires though since he doesn't have much time to recruit.

Have you heard anything since then?

Last word I saw suggested that he's going to stay at aTm. Hell he's mostly responsible for that #3 class of their's.

I would assume Stansbury had a hand in recruiting Avery Johnson's son to Aggieland, which would be the connection.

With this announcement I think it is obvious that Rick is the "coach in waiting" at aTm.

That doesn't make a lot of sense unless he wants to wait a long time

Kennedy is younger than Stansbury is. I know he was diagnosed with Parkinson's four years ago, but it hasn't seemed to affect his coaching at all since then. It could be many years before that happens. If Stansbury wants to be a head coach again somewhere, it most likely won't be at aTm, unless Kennedy gets fired in the next couple of years.

I think it just means A&M matched Alabama's offer. Not to mention Stansbury knows with a good recruiting class coming in, chances of a good season next year are better at A&M than they are at Bama and if he wants a major head coaching job, he needs to be at a program that has a good season.
