Gabriel wouldn't be in my top 9...Willis will start SKJ will play before WG

Well, he'll be in John Calipari's top 9.

Guy is a hall of famer so he knows a few things.

That said, Gabriel wouldn't be in my starting 5 right now. I've been more impressed with SKJ thus far. I start Willis and have Gabriel as my 7th man.

LOL Gabriel wouldn't be in your top 9? Ok buddy. Maybe the dumbest line that has been written on this board ever.

Indeed, but having read rolaid's posts over the last decade, I'm not surprised that's his opinion. Especially if the alternative is Willis--as you can always count on that poster to be arguing on behalf of the more "pale" skinned player. I'm sure he also ranks Humphries way above Gabriel.

Cal has seen all the practices and we haven't. That 5th starting spot could be any of Gabriel, Willis, SKJ, or Humpries. We know how good Willis is based on his play last year. If Cal starts someone else over Willis that is a good thing because it means one of those other three is already performing better than Willis of last year.

My bet would WG at this point. I could see Willis subbing in for the 3, SKJ for the 4, and Hump for the 5. Will also be interesting to see if Mulder gets any significant time. I think we are talented and deep this year.

Did you come to this conclusion during the blue/white game or big blue madness?

Willis over Gabriel. Help spread the floor on offense to let Bam operate down low and provide driving lanes for the guards.

This.

But we aren't on the staff and Cal values athleticism and defense over shooting.

Willis will get his run, but Cal is going to start Gabriel and try to set the tone that no one is going to score much on us.

Western Pennsylvania/Steeler fan mentality.

Gabriel's rebounding and D will get him on the floor a lot this season. Cal prefers players like that. Willis will get plenty of time, but so will WG!
What is all this rebounding everyone is talking about? We havent even seen him play a game yet. In the post high school games that he was in he was average at best compared to those around him, particularly at the Hoops Summit. I am a fan of his but hes a project type player. He has a great motor but not alot of lift...but in rebounding timing is everything so who knows...

Like the lineup but shooting will (seemingly) be a huge issue.
I think all of you worrying about our shooting should get together and start a sewing circle. You sound like a bunch of old women who need to always have something to worry about. Just let the season start before you start crying and worrying, and I think your all going to pleasantly surprised.

I would think that Willis would start. Also Killeya-Jones is going to do big things at Kentucky. I feel some people are overlooking him.

Maybe this is part of Willis discipline and no one is talking about it from what happened this summer

I guess i expected Willis to start while it's so early in the year, but if Gabriel has showed Cal he deserves to start from day 1, i'm all for it! We all know what Willis will bring and how talented the kid is, with Cal going with Gabriel, it only can be a good thing for this Kentucky Team! Willis will play major minutes for Kentucky this coming year. The kid shoots the ball from deep too well to not get his minutes he has earned over the years at Kentucky. This lineup is big, long and fast. If you are a fan of up and down basketball, you will love this lineup. It's made for it. Gabriel and Bam in the frontcourt is going to be a quick frontcourt. I know this lineup lacks the shooting so many Kentucky fans crave, but it's going to be fine. Gabriel is not known for his outside shooting touch, but it's not broken. The kid can shoot the ball and will only get better. When we need outside shooting in a bad way, we bring in Willis and tell him to knock down his open looks from deep. When you are talented enough to bring talents like Humphries and Willis off the bench, trust me it's not considered a bad thing. If we're all being serious and honest, this is the most talented lineup with the most upside on our roster. It's going to be a fun season for Kentucky fans!

Grassy knoll alert. If Willis doesn't start it's in house punishment for his summertime sloppiness.

SEC network. Sunday at 7:00.
Bob Neel's boy is calling it with new SEC Network sidekick Pat Bradley, the league's all-time leading three-point shooter under Nolan Richardson at Arkansas. I hear him on radio here locally. He has a visceral hatred for Kentucky. He can't hide it; it'll be interesting to see how he does tonight. It's rooted in jealousy, of course, as it is with all of these Arky fans, whether they know it or not.

Except it wasn't a experiment, this was the line up who earned it based on how they played overall in practice wth defense being a high priority. We may think it's a experiment because he didn't start the ones we thought he was going to start

I think Cal tried it (experimentation line up) last night and Willis hinted it might continue.

Exactly. That's what some reporters are saying, they also said it looks like Cal saw that it could possibly be the way he should go for the year like the Spurs did with Ginobli to help the second line up

I figured it was sending Monk a message about D.

Really? You said that out in the open. We are all wrong sometimes.

So is your position: Cal doesn't experiment?
