If you are watching the BTN postgame show they said that the Geo absence may be 1 or 2 games. Now I don't know if thats been based off any information but they did not reference the 3-4 week timeline mentioned.

It seems unclear exactly what the injury has Pikiell himself said he found out "last minute" so if Pikiell found out last minute than I am not sure how anyone else truly knows the extent.

I think worst case scenario Geo is back for Michigan at MSG on that platform, high profile opponent and a venue he plays well in.

Pikiell saying it was last minute seemed to be cover for withholding the info until right before game time. After the Caldwell game he said Geo got banged up which is why he didn’t play much so I assumed it happened in the game not a practice. Thought someone said he had ice on his hand during that game. Unless he got hurt before Caldwell and extent of injury wasn’t known until recently.

Wasn't based on any inside info. They were saying how important Baker is to the team and to potential for post season play and said they can't afford to lose him more than 1 or 2 games

That is another thing. It is unclear on what date the injury actually took place. It could be at least a week old by now.

I think they said “If” it’s only 1 or 2 games. They didn’t know. But Pike saying he found out right before leads me to believe it’s not a break and maybe he’ll be back in a couple games.

All signs point to him saying that as cover for his gamesmanship. Was dodgy in the postgame about how it happened, too.

I trust what Pike said and if he just learned we'll know more in a few days. Maybe.

So where did Carino get his 3-4 week timetable from? 1-2 games would be awesome, but let's see someone from the staff say that before believing it.

"The junior is out indefinitely with a left thumb injury, the school announced prior to Friday’s tip at Nebraska. Baker’s left, non-shooting hand is in a cast and he is expected to miss at least three weeks, probably about a month with a broken bone in his thumb, Gannett New Jersey has learned."

Geo is certainly not a true point guard, but they absolutely need him! This is the Big Ten, and you need players, and he does make big shots, there's no getting around that. We just do not have enough depth at the guard position right now.

If it’s a thumb sprain, they can be brutal. Better that it’s his left hand at least, but can be a tough injury.

No one had any idea how long Powell would be out. That injury was also "indefinite" with some thinking actually around the same time frame. Then he is back 3 games later. Point is no one really knows when Geo will be back.

First of all his thumb was not in a cast so there is probably not a break and definitely nothing like a fracture that required fixation as it was mainly a wrap with a couple of wraps around the wrist.
Secondly I think it was his non shooting hand

It's on his off hand at least so hopefully that means a quicker return.

he didn’t just learn as geo is in a cast and the team is in Nebraska. Did he fly out yesterday? It’s not like geo got X-rays and a cast 5 minutes before the game in Nebraska when he was icing his hand all second half vs Caldwell. Pike also said geo was banged up in the Caldwell post game.
with that said. I’m perfectly fine with how pike handled it. Why give your opposition that information so they can game plan for it. Say you just found out before tip. Smart move pike.

Geo probably sat out practice and was going to see how he was but in shoot around yesterday didn’t feel good about it so that they wrapped his hand

You can be sure they will keep his projected return under wraps for game planning purposes for the opponents. Therefore, we will be discussing speculating his return for days or weeks and my guess we will learn of his return at tip off that targeted time.

I was sitting in 2nd row of 215 for the caldwell game and geo was sitting on the bench icing his hand for a good portion of the second half. Maybe he injured it in the game initially and made it worse in practice or vice versa? Say he is out a 4/5 games , just go .500 to keep post season hopes alive, already 1-0. At least he could be back for the toughest part of the schedule.

The silver lining that if Geo is out the max 3 weeks that is being speculated he is back for the most important stretch of the schedule in February where RU can pick up the majority of their Q1 wins.

Brian Fonseca tweeted that Pikiell told Jerry Recco that Geo broke his thumb. Matt Sugam tweeted same about broken thumb

I am thinking now with how this may go that if RU more or less continues to thrive without Geo that they will be in no rush to bring Geo back. After all he typically has worn down at the end of the season due to too many minutes and hasn't played as well towards the end of the season so maybe RU just sits him for the stretch run to keep him as fresh as possible.

the btn guy had no idea and didn't even know it was reported as a broken bone in the thumb--his comments were uninformed much like many saying pikiell is lying to the press and a national tv audience

Carino's article said 3 weeks with the possibility of 4. I assure you he is not pulling that out of thin air.

Any hand doctor should be able to give approximate recovery time from a broken thumb.

If I am not mistaken there are no NCAA rules that make it mandatory for a team to report injuries. If I am correct there is no way we are announcing anything.
