4. If at any step there are only two teams tied, refer to Step 2 to break the tie.

2. If teams are tied, competition between the tied teams will be considered.

What was the tiebreaker that made N-O an 11 seed? I had them at the 10, following tiebreaker but doesn't mean I did it right lol.

4- If a tie still exists, the team or teams with the greatest number of wins over first and second division teams will be selected and/or given the higher seed. If only two teams remain after this step and the two teams have played each other, Step 1 will be used to determine the qualifier for the State Play-offs and/or get the higher seed.

OK. I guess I thought it always said when you get down to two teams it always goes to head-to-head. That line used to be in there but it's not any more. I see that it's in the other steps but not in Step 6. That seems really odd to me so I'm not sure if that's an oversight or they really wanted to leave it that way. Not sure why every other step would include that except the last one.

So, like I thought, when they got down to CWCE and C-O, they used the head-to-head result.

I've been looking at that. Could they have used the head to head? Burwell, C-O, and CWCE were all tied down to the last tiebreaker. By my interpretation, C-O should be ahead of CWCE based on opponents' winning percentage.

I think that was an oversight in how it was written. They've always gone to head-to-head when there are two teams left. So Burwell has the best opponents win percentage but then it's down to C-O and CWCE so they went to head-to-head.

Can't believe a 1-7 team made the field.

Boyd County's only win was against 0-8 Niobrara-Verdigre. In their 8 losses the average score was 48 - 7, never scoring more than 14 points in one game.

Just put the roster, not the season schedule and scores on that state football t-shirt!

I agree that it's sad a 1-7 team made it...but you have to leave D at 32, or at least have a sub state round and re-seed afterward.
Burwell wouldn't have made it last year at 16, correct? And they won it all.

No, you don't have to leave it at 32. Reward a good regular season. No need for a first round full of blowouts.

Especially as D-1 and D-2 continue to shrink. If they don't go to 16 next year, there might only be 5-6 eligible teams that DON'T make the D-1 playoffs.

A 9 game schedule with 16 teams in the playoffs for 8 man wouldn't be a bad deal. If they don't go to 16, how about going back to the round of 32 being called the qualifying round and then re seed the 16 teams that win and then start the playoffs.

They won the state championship trophy.
Call round of 32 something else.
But as long as the nsaa sets schedules it should be 32 in d, especially when the nsaa allows for drop downs from c1 and c2 schools.

Mute point really because of the 9 teams that dropped down there was only 4 teams with a .500 record or better (all 4 eligible for playoffs this year.) The 5 other teams that dropped down weren’t very competitive in D either.

I understand some districts are tougher than others but if you would play a nine game schedule it would shake itself out.

Agree on 9 game schedule.
Listen, one c2 team affecting d1 playoffs is too many.
Plus, playing a bad c2 team can also hurt your chances.
Just because you don't like seeing crappy games first round doesn't mean a team like burwell last year should have sat home.
Just ignore the first round.
Don't go.
Don't buy a t shirt.
I don't like seeing 2-6 teams in but I dislike seeing 6-2 teams, with no control of their schedule sit at home while worse teams are in, much worse.
It doesn't affect your life. It does effect theirs.
I'm open to play in games, etc. but simply going to a 16 team playoff is out of the question in d right now.

Thanks for the grammar lesson.

Not trying to ruffle too many feathers here. I’m not saying take it down to a 16 team bracket, 24 is a nice number, would eliminate most if not all losing records out of the playoffs.

I for one am all for schools setting up their own non district schedules. Put the power into the schools to play tougher schedules to boost their wildcard points.
