I agree with the first paragraph, however I attribute our mediocrity to bad coaching hires while you seem to suggest it’s a program issue. Obviously if something has been done somewhere before it’s proven that it can be done again. There are teams like Auburn and Texas Tech going to final fours that don’t have near the fan support, facilities or cache for basketball that Arkansas does. Why? Because they have two of the best coaches out there.

Even as mediocre as Anderson was we still finished with the 3rd best record in the SEC his last 5 years only behind Kentucky and Florida. It’s not like we’ve necessarily been awful. He just could never do anything in the tournament.
How and why is Arkansas going to pull a top coach? Texas Tech got lucky but look at the hundreds of schools that didn’t get that lightning in a bottle hire. I don’t know why that example is something that Arkansas could hope for when it’s so rare. The TT coach will get hired away by an elite school, so even if you got that lucky it’s unlikely Arkansas could retain such a coach. Bruce Pearl has baggage and that might be Arkansas best hope is getting a damaged coach, but as Petrino proved that’s not always the best bet either.

As a fan you have to have optimism from some source and fans tend to see the best case scenario. You plucked the two best cases in all of cbb as a good reason that a school like Arkansas could turn it around but that’s just two schools, mathematically that is poor odds. I however don’t see the best case scenarios as the most likely ones to happen. The far safer bet is that Arkansas does not get anywhere near the mid 90’s success or even the 70’s.

As an example it’s been 23 years since Arkansas had a tournament run, yet no Pearl or Beard fell into your lap. I’m dead serious when I suggest that Arkansas isn’t coming back, the math favors that argument a lot more than the small chance you land and keep a good coach.
