Its a boring *** hire. He’s never been a head coach at any level. Any. You’re trying to excite the fan base and give them hope for the future and you hire.....*checks notes......Todd ******* Grantham? I’m out if that’s the direction we go.

Let me get this right. Here is what I am reading in this thread:

- We can not make a hire unless it's an "elite" hire.
- We can not hire a guy unless it excites the fan base.

With these 2 things as a must, we will never make a hire.

The “same players” is a very silly point to try to make. Very silly.

Well, what did Shoop have that made him elite in a scheme change -- that grantham didn't have that just made him pretty good -- in another scheme change? Explain to me exactly what was different.

Hiring Moorhead over Norvell and Satterfield was a mistake. Cohen didn’t interview either I don’t believe but his final 3 were Moorhead, Chad Morris, and Jeremy Pruitt. He should be fired for that alone. Grantham is just the defensive version of the Moorhead mistake.

Yes and yes

#1, you are convenient with which stats you are attempting to use rather than forming a consistent basis.

I've no opinion on him, but he took us from below 100 ranked in defense to #10 in 1 year.
There it is. The Sirmon PTSD morphed into Grantham Stockholm Syndrome in a single quote.

Are we knocking him because he can't be truly "elite" ?
15 years as a DC. About half of which were among the most talented defenses in the country. And every time they were -- they underperformed under Grantham. He would have had the MSU defense last season between about 6th and 15th nationally. Because he couldn't let the front 4 get pressure and help himself from blitzing every play.

That's like saying Saban has never put up a truly elite team because he lost a game.
Yeah, it's exactly like that. Except not at all.

He has the #9 defense in the nation right now, and that offense is ranked 107th in rushing.............
In efficiency defense, he's #14 nationally right now. Was #22 last year. Florida prior: #50 when coach was fired midseason, #8, #8, #17, #5, #6, #2, #19, #23, #6, #2. Grantham has been, at absolute best, historically average for what Florida defenses have been the past 15 years.

Grantham is a pretty-to-very good defensive coordinator. He is not elite. He's done nothing throughout his career that made anyone else think he'd make a good head coach.

You said only with a rushing offense was he good. Not the case this year.

None of that is remotely the point. As a fan, you are implying that we can't hire him because he is not elite. And that rules out every candidate on our list including those who turned us down.

This is like saying as a single guy, 5'3 and 300 pounds refuses to marry an 8 because she is not a modeling 10!

Well, he's paid more than all but 3 of them.

That's usually based on results.

Uh, no I didn't. I was commenting on the fact that Dan's offense kept Grantham's defense off the field quite a bit while Moorhead's left Shoop's out there all season. So, based on the help from the other side of the football, he should have been every bit as good as Shoop was. Except he wasn't even close.

Even if you thought that was what I meant, it doesn't follow logically. But follows with the logic of a guy that was convinced the Moorhead ship was sailing in the right direction as of last week.

The rest of your post is just dumb.

Go back to the original thought of the thread. Why should we not hire him?
