My wife and I just got back from Normandy. We watched the flag lowering ceremony at the cemetery where over 9000 American boys were buried. Stood in a German bunker looking down on the beach where the landing craft dumped our boys out in the water or sand. Heard two liberal socialist French tour guides talk about how great socialism is while at the same time praising the Marshall Plan which poured billions of free market capitalist dollars into their continent after saving their very existence. I realized again that this nation was a gracious act of God done for His purposes. I have no idea why I am blessed enough to be born here and live here.

Tell us about a time you witnessed something that made you think "I'm proud to be an American".
The way all of us came together after 911. The flag magnets on the cars everywhere.

We had a German exchange student who visited us in 2005, and she said that our residents seemed to have more and show more pride in our country than in any other country she had ever visited. I would like to believe that is true.

It was at an all time high then and maybe an all time low now, regardless of your political preference. This country is at war with itself.

09-12-2001: I was living in Mauldin and working in Spartanburg at the time. Every morning, I would stop at the Spinx station/store and get cup of coffee for the commute.

I'm getting my cup, and there was a gentleman next to me doing the same. It was as if we needed to talk to others, so we struck up a brief conversation. I got my coffee, turned to him, stuck out my hand and wished him safe travels. He pushed my hand out of the way and wrapped me in a powerful bear hug.

So there we were. Two forty-year olds, one black, one white, hugging it out in the middle of a convenience store.

Never felt so "American".

My one time is every day. Freedom is not free and the price our country paid
for this freedom makes me proud each day.

Visiting the WWII museum put this all in perspective. What a brave armed forces with great leadership!

I have 4 uncles that served in WWII and two are still alive. One received the white Star medal.

While on a deployment...giving food and water to those in need
I’m ashamed for you, enabling those people to grow accustomed to handouts.

As for me, I’m proudest of how we have stayed true to our tradition of pulling families apart that come to this country.

Every day I put on my navy uniform.

We sure dont do it for pay, 10% off at lowes, or a pat on the back.

Maybe everyone should have to. That way there could be a little more appreciation of what freedom costs.

Right now I am smoking some beef, pork, and chicken. Drinking a beer on my deck. Pretty sure this is what some of it is about.

I know you're just trying to get attention and stay relevant in some way on here, but people like you are the exact reason why this country is the way it is now. No care to say any good on a day meant to celebrate the people that gave us what we take for granted. Just have to try and bring your way old and played out bs as per usual. Carry on, because you just can't help yourself.

Happy 4th to everyone else and God Bless America!

Probably the day I left home after trying to run away the year before.

Even as a teenager I felt strongly I could run my life better than my parents. And it didn't take long for me to prove that. It was fairly easy, actually.

Go to Venezuela and be proud. Take 0bama with you, as he is the pathetic author of those scenes you selected to portray.

I am embarrassed and ashamed that you are a fellow American.
Though you may not like his views or opinions many of our brave armed forces made the ultimate sacrifice which ultimately gave each and every one of us the right to voice whatever opinion he or she chooses to.

I think we can all agree that the United States of America is simultaneously the greatest and worst nation on earth. It follows logically that it would be.

Proud to be an American every time there is a peaceful transfer of power. Definitely something taken for granted.
