he could be right. there’s no way he’s a better scorer in transition though. wall may be the greatest one man fast break in college basketball history.

We didn't lose that game because WVU kept John Wall out of the lane. We lost that game because we kept trying to shoot 3s. If we would have just ignored the outside shot and exploited our advantage inside.... who knows. But we lost that game taking 32 3-pointers.

And this is likely why Cal refuses to hoist more than 18-20 3s in a game. Even worse, it seems like he gets extra strict on it come tournament time. I think the ghosts from that game still haunt him to this day.

He had something to do with it since he was the coach that decided to play zone against UK.

He was, but he wasn't the only one, and it wasn't hard to figure it out. You weren't going to beat UK in 2010 by playing man. Your only shot at beating them was to play zone and hope they didn't make outside shots. Pretty much every team, down the stretch at least, played UK zone. Everybody knew that was the only option. A couple of times it worked, but most of the time it didn't.

But in the end, it wasn't even really the zone that killed them. They started taking long range jumpers on fast breaks. They probably thought they weren't going to miss them all, and they were right, but they missed enough.

Yes, him being a stud point guard and future #1 pick is a big part of that, but it goes so much deeper. Us hiring Calipari off the heels of BCG and an NIT season gave us hope, but the world didn't fully buy in to UK being back until John Wall showed up.

The swagger that Wall carried to go along with his electrifying game made him the perfect one man icon for the program. Before John Wall, high school players viewed Kentucky as a school that was a boring, traditional powerhouse and not much more. Wall turned Kentucky into THE place to play college basketball pretty much overnight.

mkg was better at finishing on a break. wall created breaks from nothing by himself. even after made baskets. whole different stratosphere. on a 3 on 2 you give it to mkg on one wing and yeah he’s going to complete the play. wall didn’t require to be on a break, he could force one by himself. so what about my statement that he’s arguably the best one man fast break isn’t true, again?

No doubt. We don’t play that style anymore. Wall brought us out of boring, Cal has us back there though.

I honestly still cannot believe how bad he was. He was not the same player at UK that I watched in high school. Maybe he got the yips or something. Truly...cannot figure it out.
