I know Provy will say no but perhaps Iggy vs Leo in 1st Round, perhaps St Pats vs Carmel?
Who don’t like extra football? Years ago Fenwick was 3-6 against a brutal schedule & won their 3 Catholic Prep Bowl playoff games & the Prep Bowl & finished 7-6. I think Niles Notre Dame did similar

Little coaches with big egos. Always nice to get seniors more time together, get the younger guys some reps and exposure. And if your last game of the year is a W it’s an added bonus and great momentum going into the following year. I know Rice parents, alumni and former coaches spoke out against their head coach last year opting out of prep bowl playoffs after an early exit.

Provi shocks me, their core is young. Their freshman went 9-0. QB was a soph on varsity. Get them more reps.

Agree. Why not play? Maybe some footballers play basketball? Seems coaches always say more time is better.

The big complaint was that it was unfair Catholic Schools would get extra practice but nobody complained CPS would. When I mentioned the rules said any school could practice until the last day of the season the final day of state championship games they said why would we do that? So because other schools wouldn’t continue to practice they are mad others are still playing & practicing lol

The Prep Bowl doesn't have the lure it once did. Kids don't want the grind of practice for something they see not worth it? I think kids getting ready for winter sports/getting some rest certainly have a play in this.

Unfortunately seems that way - will be interesting to see if Rice or Fenwick play (since one will lose first round) or any of the other CCL teams that qualified and have a tough first round

I would have a hard time believing any kids from the loser of that game care one bit about the prep bowl.
Not trying to bash it in any way, it just isn't what it once was.

I don’t think you’ve ever agreed with or liked anything I’ve posted. The Prep Bowl quit being what it once was when the playoffs started but my grandpa took me to the games since I was little & they’ll always be special to me. WLS used to show the games & St Laurence a block from my house won a bunch of them & were featured on Ray Rayner. Then again I’m not a big fan of Power 5 teams really so while everyone gets jacked up about March Madness I love the CIT,CBI & NIT since they feature Mid Majors. I also used to pass up chances many times to see Northwestern Illinois & NIU on occasion so I can watch Moraine Valley,Joliet Jr College & Augustana and similar schools. My point being I like what’s not popular.

There was nothing to agree with or disagree with. The conversation turned to whether teams would participate. I gave my opinion, right or wrong. If the Prep Bowl was something I grew up with I most likely would have an affinity for it. The concept back when it was a "thing" was pretty darn cool. Times changed and it doesn't have the cache it did. Enjoy it, it is still football.

And if it wasn't obvious by the first 3 letters of my name, I love me some SIU bball, MVC/mid major bball.

One of my favorite years was 1983 when SIU destroyed Western Carolina to win the 1AA. I watched it & NIU won the California Bowl that year too which I also watched. As a young man I was in my glory.

Fenwick’s starting Jr QB broke his ankle against Carmel Catholic. I doubt they’ll go prep bowl if they lose to Rice.

It’s very difficult for me to agree with this for many reasons.

Last year Rita got a bad draw, lost in the first round and won the prep bowl. That momentum has carried over greatly this year. Similar to ND winning the prep bowl and making the quarters the following year. I’m sure there are more examples as well.

Rita vs Marist was also a high quality prep bowl game last year. BR last year could have opted in after a first round loss but didn’t. Not sure why they didn’t, or Provi and ICCP this year. But these are high quality participants and games. Either way, there are playoff-caliber teams that play in prep bowl.

How many playoff teams would Carmel and Iggy beat? I’m sure they will be in the prep bowl as well as Fenwick/Rice loser. I would venture those games will be higher quality than some round 2 matchups.

Let’s not forget about seniors. If the program is good, the seniors want to come back for more games. Once it’s gone it’s gone. I don’t understand the schools that don’t participate. I imagine the ones that aren’t are coach decisions not student athlete decisions. And it should be up to the student athletes.

The Prep Bowl is really a perfect situation for a program where St. Patrick’s is right now. The lower levels have good size and numbers and the Sophs are talented. It was nice to see 4 generations of St. Rita fans filling in between the 20 yard lines at Lane Stadium for last year’s victory. And you get to hit so little in today’s practices that nothing can compare to 2-4 weeks of live reps against sound competition. I’m glad St. Rita has always welcomed the invitation even if it’s not their biggest goal.

Lol I don't think anyone will come to that conclusion after reading your text.
