Given it's likely it will be a "Magnificent 7" declaring NBA, wonder which one of you sayers of sooth out there can correctly predict the 4 (5 maybe?) who will eventually sign with UK out of Zimm, Diallo, Brown, Newman, Maker, Swanigan, Ingram (probably leaving someone out -- I don't follow this as well as most of you).

Big prize for the winner.

We are only expected to lose 7, we already have 3 signed/committed, so there is no way we will be adding five (5+3 = 8). I think we sign 3 more. Newman and Zimmerman/Maker. Not sure who the third will be, hopefully Brown or Ingram but I understand that could be a big of a longshot

You win the tie-breaker for getting yours in first, good luck!

I'm thinking we add three more players to those already committed. I'm going with Newman and Zimmerman for sure. After that I'm just not sure. I'll go with Brown as the final piece to the puzzle, but wouldn't mind adding Diallo as well. I love that kid's motor.

we have 3 in the fold and bring back a great nucleus in ulis , Poy , Lee , Hawkins and Willis . So we need 3 more minimum and 4 at most . I think For sure add

Newman and Zimmerman and then i will go with Brown.

So see us lining up like this next year

Starters

Ulis
Newman
Brown
Poythress
Zimmerman

Back ups in order of minutes i think they get

Skal - I don't have him starting but i think he will be our best player but Cal goes with Poy for experience .
Briscoe- PG and SG
Lee -PF and C
Matthews
Hawkins- SG

Newman and Maker. Hopefully Brown. Would love Brown the most because I want to see Poythress playing the 4. I want to see UK playing players as close to their natural positions as possible. I feel that makes a team more balanced.

If UK loses 7, then I'd love to see Cal land some combination of the following guys:

Newman
Brown
Ingram
Diallo
Zimmerman
Maker

Newman and Brown are my favs that are still undecided, and I'd have a huge smile on my face is Cal managed to get both--but if Dakari is gone then I think we need another solid big guy. There won't be a lot of bulk in the frontcourt as most of these 2015-2016 "big" guys are really skinny, but I'm hoping their athleticism can make up for what they're lacking in bulk.

And is it just me, or does it seems like an unusual amount of top high school seniors are waiting longer than most other years to make a decision? It also seems like most of them at one recent point or another have stated they are waiting to see who stays and who goes... So if 7 UK guys announce they are leaving tomorrow, I think some decisions will come fairly quick as guys won't want to lose a spot on next year's team. Maybe I'm just too biased though.

Skal is the projected number pick in the following draft and you don't think Cal starts him? I understand experience but Cal will start the stars over the veterans. I hope you are right about Brown.

Brown and Newman will NOT go to the same same school . The article's I read covering the week leading up to the MddAA game said they couldn't STAND each other . At one point Brown stopped the 5 on 5 and yelled " HE WILL NEVER BE A POINT GUARD " to everyone.

i really don't think we get a big haul. I don't think Cal wants to platoon anymore, so he only needs 6-7 rotation guys.

We already have Ulis, Briscoe, Matthews, Poythress, Lee, and Labissiere as potential rotation guys. Add one more guard and maybe one more big and we are good.

At this point, I expect to get Newman. Not sure after that.

Only two of them have us at the top of their lists ... The others are more than likely headed elsewhere (never been in the lead).

Those two players are Newman and Zimmerman

This, however Towns and Lyles will have to leave to get Zimmerman.

We we only really have 12 scholarship players, so if 7 leave we can easily take 8 but 3-4 of them will most likely be 4 year role players. I really want to see Willis and Hawkins in our 7-8 man rotation next year, so we really only need Zimmerman.

Lee
Poythress? If he decides to return as a graduate student
Ulis
3 new freshman
hopefully Zimmerman
Hawkins
Willis

Thats 9 player rotation, which will cut short Willis and Hawkins minutes. This is a very doable team and easily the favorite again. Poythress is the magic thread, if he decides to go, expect another bumpy season. His leadership would be amazing. Willis needs to add about 10-15 pounds of muscle or he will not see rotation at UK. Hawkins is a great ball handler (2-1 assist/to ratio) but has not shown good shooting skills, which could be due to low playing time.

Most are thinking Newman and Zimmerman. If that is the case, then:

Starters
G Ulis
G Briscoe
G Newman
F Poythress
F Labissiere

Key Reserves
F Lee
F Zimmerman

Bench
G Hawkins
G Floreal
G Matthews
F Willis
F Wynyard (2nd semester)

Considering all 7 leave, then...

Returning Players -

Tyler Ulis
Alex Poythress
Marcus Lee
Derek Willis
Dominique Hawkins

Already committed/signed -

Skal Labissiere
Isaiah Briscoe
Charles Matthews

To me, looking at that roster as it stands, we already have a top 10-15 team, but I believe Cal will sign two, maybe three more (a guard, a center, and maybe a scoring forward) which should push us into the top 3-5 range. My guess based on everything I've read so far is that those three will be Malik Newman, Stephen Zimmerman, and possibly one of Jaylen Brown or Brandon Ingram.

To be honest, there really isn't that many players to choose from, there is literally no guards to choose from outside Newman in the top 50. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cal get involved (if he hasn't already) with 6-6 wing Damion Lee out of Drexel who is going to be a graduate transfer, especially considering Cal's good friend and former assistant coach Bruiser Flint is the coach for the Drexel Dragons and could help steer Lee to UK. Lee would be able to step in right away and fill Booker's shoes. He averaged 21.4 ppg for Drexel while shooting 44% from the field (38.5% from three) and 89% from the free throw line.

If Cal brings Lee on board then I think you can expect two more commits for sure (probably Zimm and Ingram if I had to bet on it).

Honestly I think I'd rather have Lee than Newman if it's just for one year.

The leadership of a 5th year player as opposed to the "feast or famine" volume scoring Freshman...

I'd be thrilled to get Newman but I'd prefer Lee...

Obviously most of you guys will disagree...

Isn't it fun to speculate on which of the 5* talent UK is going to land and not *if* they can land them?

I too think it is 3 max of impact players. He may sign more, but the rest will be for the future years beyond next season. The list in my mind, in order of importance is:

1) Ingram
2) Newman
3) Big Z

And if he gets that haul, watch out, they are almost built in the exact mold of the 2011-2012 team, and we know how that turned out.

As of now, we know everyone is going except Booker. If we lose him, then Cal will replace 7. Cal always get good talent. What has hurt us is sometimes the other team has the best player on the floor and beat us on match ups. I really like what I am hearing about Skal. He is a excellent scorer for a big. I would want Newman and Ingram to be cats. We need confident scorers and options to get points.
We have:

MatthewsBriscoeSkal
We will get 4 more:

B Ingram - Cal was supposed to have an in home visit. Heard this at the Mc D game. Have not heard anything else? solidifies the sf spot for 1-2 years, JP is gone pro and unc seems to think that is opening up a slot. I think post season bans are coming and ingram is not a dook fan. Newman - we need a scoring guard to replace Booker. I don't think we get Brown.1 of Maker or Zimmerman would be niceI think Swanigan goes to Mich st.C Diallo IDK
The main thing is we still have got Cal. I think we will platoon again to start off next year. This worked well for us this year and if AP does not get hurt maybe platooning would have never stopped. It allows Cal to see what he has got with the new young team. Who plays well with each other, etc. It stresses COMPETITION and earning playing time. Recruits see 6-7 guys going into the league (IT WORKED). Ulis on 1 platoon and Briscoe leading the other.

Finally, I would love to see Cal run the spread ND offense w/ one 1 platoon and another offense with the other 1. Make teams prepare twice as hard. On the defensive end, mix up man to man with zone defenses. Make all of the kids learn both offenses and defenses during the year so we can be more balanced and prepared for next years tournament. I agree. Newman is a one and done player, that's for sure, so why wouldn't you rather have a kid who's played for 4 years already and has already proven himself to be a talented college player at the same position (not to mention he's bigger than Newman at 6-6 vs. 6-3/6-4).
