Is it just me, or has the coverage of this been about 1/10th of what the Florence coverage was? I watched some this morning and they were even talking more about what Michael would eventually do in the Carolinas to areas affected by Florence. Barely even talked about Florida. Just strange... seems like the news is ignoring this one for some reason. Or maybe it's just because it developed so quickly compared to Florence which we saw coming for over a week.

Wow. I was in Panama City in June and Navarre Beach two weeks ago. I go at least once a year and sometimes twice. I hope all those full time residents took the warnings seriously and evacuated.

My son lives in PCB, and they just moved into their house last week. Not sure how it's doing because they evacuated. Luckily to an extent, it came ashore east of them instead of right on top of them as was forecast.

Yeah, me too. They're in Atlanta now, so might get some storm effects still, but nothing like the coast had. They're not going back until the power comes back on, and schools are closed until Monday in PCB. I think they'll probably come here Friday, then go back to clean up the mess on Sunday. They got a call from the security company that said they had a glass breakage alarm, but it reset so it might not really be a broken window. Their neighbor is a fireman and had to stay there, so he's going to check on things after he gets off duty. From seeing damage on The Weather Channel, it wasn't terribly bad in PCB.

Wouldn't be surprised if they rate this one as a Cat 5. I don't think the measurement instruments are accurate enough to say it was just 1 mph below a 5 rating.

My part of PCB near Pier Park didn't get the full hit, the East end through the bend are destroyed. Mexico Beach no longer exists. I stayed on St. Joe Island State Park last weekend and left Monday, we were the last ones off the park. We may be the last ones to ever stay at that park. Put that in perspective.

We weren't in any real danger over in Pensacola Beach but it seemed prudent to leave anyway...and they placed an evac order not long after we left Tuesday.

That said...I watched the Live Storm Chasing site (aka the Brett Adair mentioned earlier) and the devastation was crazy. I saw Adair's video as it happened (live streaming) and that was scary.

yes. Florence was so long and drawn out...like the whole Stalked by a Turtle analogy. Then it weakened, slowed and rained an ungodly amount for days.

this thing was not even on the radar till this weekend exploded rapidly and will be in the North Atlantic in 24 hours from now.

When do you plan to go back down?

I'm about 8 miles west of Bay Point closer to the Pier Park area. My home is older but held up to both Opal and Ivan, it's built to earlier Hurricane code.

I have a two friends that live in Bay Point, one lost a chimney and boat dock, the other received zero damage. The one with the most damage was on the Bay itself, the other was on the golf course.
