Stephen Garcia revealed today that he has stage 4 colon cancer!

Get the freakin' screening, folks!! You're unconscious. Or if you think you might like it, ask to stay conscious!
No kidding! I'm due for a colonoscopy this year.

If you're conscious you might hear the jokes they crack about the procedure. For me, I prefer to not participate in chit chat while there's a scope up my a$$. I prefer to be out of it.

This totally sucks!!

Yes, get screened. It's really not a big deal. I had my second one done last summer.

It seems to be happening more and more to younger people. This is no longer a disease for the middle-older aged.

Godspeed Stephen!

My SIL is a radiation oncologist and a multitude of studies are ongoing trying to figure out why it’s skewing so much younger.Of course diet is the main area of focus.Processed foods.Just trying to figure out if its nitrates or other chemicals.Likely more than 1 cause but all life style related.

I have always had to drink the liquid…but I have heard some folks are taking pills instead of having to take the drink.
I'm not sure how a pill would facilitate flushing everything out of your colon. You still need enough liquid to do the job.

I was twilighted during my last screening a couple of years ago. I'm on the table lying on my side, they're pumping some air to make the path clearer. No pain at all. Next thing I know, I'm in recovery and encouraged to get up and leave.

I'm 100% doing the pill regiment next time. I'm told its a series of about 30 or so pills. Way better than drinking that awful crap.
Shouldn't his insurance cover the cost? Better to donate to more research.
How do you know he's insured? If he is insured, how do you know his insurance will cover costs for a 30-something year old man?

Few if any people actually have real insurance. What we have created in this country isn't insurance, it's an overly complicated, wasteful payment system with layers of rules, regs, and bureaucracy to control and often deny care. Like the poster above said people with insurance often can't get the treatment they need.

I know, this isn't the place to argue it.

If Garcia has a legit GoFundMe, it sure wouldn't hurt to help him out. The link posted above looks legit, and people are definitely helping!

It’s legit as he’s commented on it. I think the initial goal was around $20k. Last night it was already over $100k.

I know 2 people who were just diagnosed with cancer, and both had to start a GFM to help cover costs, because insurance isn’t paying for certain treatments.

I think I jumped the gun. My insurance covered the cost of a colonoscopy. During the last couple of colonoscopies, the GI found a few minor polyps which were easily removed. What Garcia is now going through is far beyond the preventive procedure. My apologies to all,

Yes, this is far beyond the preventive colonoscopy which is typically covered. My bad.
