It's not sufficiently hard to ***** about it and to imply that doing better shouldn't be an expectation, especially since it's as hard or harder at other schools academically speaking (I'm looking at you Stanford) and they've shown what is possible. Hell, we don't even have to look at what other schools have done -Gary Barnett showed what was possible here at Northwestern with a deck stacked much deeper against him, without the benefit of any evidence whatsoever or $275m facilities that are the best in the land. Hard? Sure. But, certainly doable and far from a minor miracle and absolutely within reach and should be within our expectations.

Maybe, but it's very hard for NU to match the recruiting efforts of the big boys with their extensive football traditions, huge fan bases and lower admissions standards. Some damn good coaches over the years (Dick Hanley, Pappy Waldorf, Ara, Alex Agase, Barnett etc.) have been able to have good seasons at NU, but have had trouble winning year-in and year-out. I think it is possible for Northwestern to be a very competitive B1G team as it has been for the most part under Fitz and occasionally have a breakthrough year, winning the division and maybe a league title. If you look at NU football history from the '20s through the early '70s, that was generally the profile of the team. The Dark Ages were largely the result of the complete abandonment of the program by the school and its administration. I'm actually somewhat surprised the B1G didn't kick us out of the conference during that period. Probably only institutional inertia saved us. Fitz's biggest ace in the hole has been that he has the backing of school administrators and generous financial supporters who actually are interested in seeing NU football succeed. That has given us one of the longest sustained stretches of competitive football in the school's history, and I'm hoping Fitz can take it up another notch.
I'll second this notion, adding that our student-athletes actually have to "play school" even if they have pro aspirations.
You think those communications courses are easy? Based on what. There is a lot going on in that world right now.
As a comm major I resent that statement. But yes I had a ton of football guys in my class.
Hmm...how did you feel about the former Radio, Television and Film major? Asking for a friend....
Given the difficulty many posters have communicating around here, I’d say it’s a pretty tough major.
