Coordinators making "in-game " adjustments??While it surely doesnāt tell you that much, what you ideally want to hear is that there is back and forth and one side is not dominating the other.
I think Butler is already in the picture. Nelson and Tannor have the experience at OLB, but I think Butler is probably the next man up, at least for Nelson's OLB/DE position. Weaver I don't know. I don't think he's as near to playing time as Butler. I don't even know if Weaver ever got into shape. Hopefully he's not pushing 400 lbs any more. I agree it would be great if Weaver stepped up and began to meet his immense potential. Is it too much to hope for that the light goes on for Weaver and Butler? Man that would really really help shore things up
Their the three that have the most potential for this offense being explosive in the passing gameā¦I bet those are our three starting WR's in game 1.
Hence my 5-7 comment.I remain deeply concerned about the defensive line, and Chinander's comments only reinforce those concerns. He himself said it best: you can have all the talent in the world on defense but if you do not have a stout defensive line you will not be a good defense in this league or any league. If teams can just line up and shove the ball down our throats then our new-fangled offense will not see the field much and even when they do they will not have a short field and will most often be playing from behind. Some of these young guys better step up to the plate or else all of our new found optimism for the coming season will evaporate quickly. And if that happens then Frost is going to regret his staff's lack of recruiting for the defensive line over the past few years.

Teams lose players to graduation and no doubt NU lost a lot of experience on the DL. However, if you look at how NU lined up on most downs, you see a lot of Nelson on one side, Tannor on the the other and two DTs inside. Given that Tannor and Nelson are now veterans, I expect them to play a lot. Gunnerson played quite a bit in the last two games of the season. In reality, NU needs to find the guys that can fill the two inside positions. Last year Stille logged a lot of those downs. Hutmacher played little last year, but he was in reality competing for downs at two psns with Snacks, Stille, Deontre, Ty and Rogers (at least later in the season when he could play). Polar Bear is now a third year guy and should be ready to play. Newsom is a fourth year guy. If he's not ready to play, it's time to move along. But does he suck, or can he become at least a serviceable guy like Deontre? Weaver and Black are sizable fellas. Is it inconceivable that they could be counted on to provide some depth?
Chinander might see this as a glass half empty situation. Losing three guys who played a lot of football for you on the DL will do that to a person. But I think he's a guy that is stingy with praise unless really earned. And I hope they are lighting a fire under these guys' asses daily.
For SF sake he better..Weren't we supposed to be getting some DL help in the portal?? After spring ball??
He probably got the idea from his time at Oregon.I donāt know if SF ever realized how important it is to have a stingy defense with quality special teams..
He appears to be a guy who thinks he can win by scoring more often than his opponents.. Where ever he got this idea from is beyond me when he should know the history of this program has always had tremendous defenses when winning championships or for that matter winning seasons..
I'm concerned with the d line being g physically ready. None of them are bog 22 or 23 year old dudes who have developed. They're all young potentialFor all of the hand wringing over DL depth, here is the DL two deep for the bowl game of NU's last winning season
DE Dzuris (walkon)/Alex Davis
DT Stoltenberg/Carlos Davis
DT Maurice/Khalil Davis
DE Freedom/Natter
Two of the six were upperclassmen. Most of you don't remember that AJ Natter was on the team.
Years of experience per player (including season) - 3.25
A reasonable two deep this year for NU's four man front is
DE Nelson/Butler
DT Rogers/Newsom
DT Robinson/Hutmacher
DE Tannor/Gunnerson
Years of experience per player (including coming season) - 3.75

Be nice if Weaver of Black make a jump in the fall giving us some depth at DT..We are probably better at DE, but nowhere near as good at DT. The Davis twins were backups, that is alot more depth than we have. Losing the DT from Miami to ASU was a killer.
Is he too tall for centerI'll make my annual Hutmacher should be an OL reply....he would have already started last year.
Progress!! Unfortunately, that sounds about right.5-7 here we come!!!
The best shot we have with Nash starring is if a wrestling match breaks out. I tend to agree, he may have fit better on the OL since he lacks good speed.I would prepare to be very underwhelmed by "the polar bear" and as fans we better hope that Rodgers and Robinson are amazing. Those are the two you need to bet on.
I think fans get captivated by a few things...The best shot we have with Nash starring is if a wrestling match breaks out. I tend to agree, he may have fit better on the OL since he lacks good speed.
I'm willing to give him a chance, but I have felt he was overrated since day 1.
