Assume you were a Hack Tyson fan
Assume you were a Hack Tyson fan
You assume correctly. Not much TV around when I was small and used to have to listen to them on the radio, Tison stole a pass while playing Carolina and according to the announcer, he kicked the ball all the way down the court on a one man fast break and out of bounds. Not very graceful, but gave what he had to give. More of a Jack Marin and Verga fan though . Just remembered the Tison fast break for a lot of years. OFC

What is the age requirement again? 55?......like I said earlier, I'm not in a hurry to join, still about 3 1/2 years away, but I will be a proud member when the day comes. I wont fight it, I will enter gracefully!!

25 years young :).... became a Duke fan when my uncle who is a huge Duke fan had an extra ticket to the Duke vs Texas game at the meadowlands. I’ll never forget JJ just raining three after three upon Texas they had no answer for him... think he ended up with 41 that day. Him and Singler are still my favorite players to this day.

I was given a senior citizen discount at Taco Bell last week. I had been working in the yard and had on an old flannel jacket and a cap. Thankful for the discount, but I had to listen to my wife's laughing. Almost an OFC. I'm not in a hurry.

39....Fan since 91 but really took off with 99 team. Still the best Duke team I remember. Hard to believe they didn't win a title.

I thought that team was an absolute lock to win it. I think if they play that final game 5 times, Duke wins four. You can probably say that about a lot final games though. I still believe we were the better team.

63 Years old and became a fan in 1964 with Jeff Mullins. My favorites have been Bob Verga, Mike Lewis, Tate Armstrong, Mark Alarie, Danny Ferry and Shane Battier.
Love ur list but somewhat surprised that you didn't have Randy Denton and Dick Divencio on it

Topps, you are right. I should have put Denton on their. Got to spend about an hour talking to him a couple of years ago, which was really cool. Gave me lots of insight on Bucky Waters, the South Carolina fights and a few other things. Really nice guy that looks like he could still play today.

Are you at liberty to discuss what he said about Bucky.By all accounts he is a really nice guy but I am still bitter about what he did to Duke's program, especially since we could have had Chuck Daly or Hubie Brown as Bubas's successor

I have heard Bucky Waters say that he was too hard on the team and would do things differently I recall he had a few important transfers. I also remember (because I was there) two games IN A ROW that started with the other team shooting technical fouls because Duke had somehow failed to have the right uniform number on a player or something like that. I'm sure Sumner and Featherston would correct me on what happened since it's been over 40 years.

Actually more than a few. Before freshman eligibility the Freshman team just destroyed their competition Four of the five freshmen transferred. It got so bad that the players assigned as hosts for recruits told them not to come here

My 4 years at Duke were possibly the lowest point for Duke basketball, after Bubas but before Foster. Still, Duke's teams were competitive at least at home and the competition was awesome.

In general, he said that Bucky was a really nice guy but wasn't the smartest coach in the world. With the class of Denton, DeVenzio, Katherman and Evans, I would have to agree. Funny thing, a few year later I sat beside Bucky at a Duke football game and he told me that Denton was a "great young man" but never understood his full potential. I am more inclined to agree with Denton.

Hart, you old farts don't need me at all, I would just slow ya'll down. Speaking of old farts, can anybody verify if Sky is really walking around Elon's campus wearing his "Nature Boy" robe? Word on the street is he's strutting around yelling "To be the Man, you have to beat the man!!"

I had some good friends that had car problems one night down at Duke. They waited for a long time before one good Samaritan stopped by to help them get on their way. That person turned out to be Bucky Waters. OFC

I transferred to Duke from West Point in '79, so my college coaches were Krzyzewski, Foster, and then Krzyzewski again.

Gminski, Bender, Dennard, Banks, and Vince Taylor were at Duke. Worthy and Perkins were at Carolina. Albert King and Buck Williams were at Maryland and Larry Nance was at Clemson.

For the record, Mike O'Koren was the ugliest Carolina player of all time.

Hey, do I qualify for this OFC thing?
