Hey Hawk fans....your thoughts? I am disppointed....looks like lasts years team. Utah St. outscored them after the first quarter, outplayed them. But a W is a W.
Agree with you 100%. It looks like the same Iowa team from the last 2 years. I was hoping with McNamara and that WR from OSU, the passing game would be pretty good. But, what happened to him? Did not play.KF must be thrilled with yet another ugly win. It wasn't another 6-4 classic like KF's favorite win, but it was duly boring and ugly, so there's that.
The O-line pass protected pretty well against an undersized and outmanned Utah State outfit, but the run blocking was atrocious. But Utah State ran on Iowa's vaunted defensive front with great success. So it looks like Iowa's offense will be better simply because they have a real QB--as long as McNamara stays healthy, that is--but the defense looks pretty iffy. Good thing Iowa has the weakest schedule of the entire Big Ten.
Very disappointing performance by Iowa: a punt gets blocked, the line can't run block, the D got pushed around, receivers dropped 4 or 5 balls, 3 of which were sure TDs, and Iowa only managed to score 24 points on a middling Utah State team. Wow.
In other news, Deion Sanders--the only person to ever play in both a Super Bowl and a World Series--took his Colorado team to #17 TCU and, as a 20-point dog, handed the Horned Frogs a 45-42 defeat. Sanders' sons were sensational, and the QB Sanders passed for over 500 yards. Lots of people have had fun mocking Coach Prime. Who's laughin' now?
If you had watched game, you would know he played. Bill overthrew him on deep route and he was in for several other plays during gameAgree with you 100%. OK...thanks SLarew.....I must have missed it between Busch Lights.....lol.If you had watched game, you would know he played. Bill overthrew him on deep route and he was in for several other plays during game
fF saying he played 21 snaps!OK...thanks SLarew.....I must have missed it between Busch Lights.....lol.
I'm pretty sure the objective of a defense is to keep the other team from scoring. For 55 minutes when the starters were in...Utah State had 6 points. "Utah State ran on Iowa's vaunted defense"...they had 116 yard rushing...and had 18 carries for 72 yards prior to that last 5 minutes. If USU was pushing Iowa around in the running game they wouldn't have thrown it 48 times.KF must be thrilled with yet another ugly win. If my math is correct, which it sometimes is, 18 carries for 72 yards is 4.0 per carry. Iowa, OTOH, averaged 2.4 per carry. If you average 4 yards per carry and you run three times, you gain 12 yards, which is good for a first down. If you run three times for 2.4 yards a try, you gain 7.2 yards and get to punt.I'm pretty sure the objective of a defense is to keep the other team from scoring. Actually that may not have been an overthrow ... Brown hesitated bigtime at about 15 yards into his route. Really odd on his part. Look like he was thinking too much.If you had watched game, you would know he played. Bill overthrew him on deep route and he was in for several other plays during game
