Bad move in his port to accept that. His 2nd contract is where the big money is and your delaying that big money a year and removing him from big contract money an extra year of his career. College fans are short sighted.

Is that guaranteed? I don't know anymore about NBA, as I do NIL.

You don't see the recruiting struggle and trajectory? I don't think Billy Donovan or any other coach would be afraid of having to do better than what Pope is doing. I'm pretty sure they would understand that not whiffing on every single high profile prospect. Literally every single one. Some might count Moreno but I don't because he was coming to UK no matter what more than likely IMO.

It's not just about looking at where he made it in the tournament. Even then, getting smacked by Tennessee isn't impressive to me. I'm fairly young and I feel like the standard is higher than that. It's getting smacked every other game by 20 for. That's my biggest issue with Pope.. yea coaches have bad losses every year. Not every other game. He's going the wrong direction.

But who knows maybe he pulls a miracle this year and kicks but? How long do we let injuries be an excuse for our program? That's weak mentality. Didn't Duke lose their starting point guard and still make some noise? Can't remember correctly but other programs have players than can come off the bench and pick up the slack. We shouldn't give a whole mediocre season a pass just because we don't have a compitent roster when a couple players go down.

Recruit better and injuries aren't make or break. I hope he does good tho. I hope he makes any doubter eat crow. Seriously. The signs aren't looking good for Pope. But he has a chance to redeem himself.
Well stated. (y) This is not the time to be PASSIVE.

If they are having success you think they would be intimidated by a fanbase demanding success? I'm asking because I didn't really understand your response
Intimidated is the wrong word. I think it's sensible to stay in a less demanding environment. When you see a fanbase demanding a coaches head after 2 seasons, why leave where you are? Mark Pope left a D1 program in a power conference. A school that had given no hint they were looking to get rid of him. Now, if he gets fired from UK he will fall to a much lesser situation. Why would a successful coach risk that? They're probably already making a ton of money. Success is no doubt bringing in NIL money.
The whole Blue Blood thing means less than we wish it did these days. Nobody wanted this job 2 years ago. Coaches are under contract, they can't even talk to another program without permission. Feelers get put out before meetings are had, and offers are made. Nobody would even talk to Mitch but the Baylor guy, and he said no.
We better hope Pope gets it together next season. Because unless Donovan wants the job, there won't be a big upgrade.

Oh ok gotcha and I agree with you for the most part. Also agree with blue bloods are a thing of the past but bigger programs still can offer more in several aspects. Most people have money obviously but not every program has the support like UK. I for one think UK is still one of the top jobs. I don't know if Mitch taking the easy way out means we can't get a coach.

For instance, I would be excited if we got a malone like UNC did. He came in and instantly formed a respectable roster. I don't expect a coach to win a championship year one but Pope is terrible for many different reasons than just recruiting and getting smacked every few games. I'm personally not a fan of anything about him. His style. The way he talks. The way he sits on the sidelines while getting smoked. His forced mad when we say he's nice. He's just awkward in 100% of everything he does. I think he's just terrible honestly. Not the person Pope but the head coach of UK Pope. I don't hate him personally but I do absolutely hate him being the coach of Kentucky Basketball.

And yes I'll go ahead and say it. Even when he has a decent season like year one he just rubs me the wrong way. I have no confidence at all in him to have a chance at number 9 and that's the whole purpose. Just feels like wasting time.

To what I was saying about other coaches. I think they see what most of BBN sees and wouldn't be wondering why we fired him. I think they would most definitely understand what is happening and most definitely feel they could do better. It's all just an opinion tho. The only positive vibe about the program I can give myself currently is saying things like Pope has a chance to redeem himself.....knowing he won't. But I say it to at least not be 100%hateful. It's not personal tho I just want the team with more wins than anybody to keep winning big.

Everybody gets up for Kentucky in Basketball
Ever been to Gainesville ? Great college Town - Why would Donovan choose Ky over UF.?
POPE is NOT going anywhere & Ky will keep winning 25+ games a year & make it to Sweet 16 every other year so get over it & support the Kats

I'll forever support the cats. And if KY wins 25+games a year then I think you won't hear me complaining to much. I would love for Pope to be the one to have success at UK before anybody else. Just because of how hard the fans and entire country have been on him. I just don't see it happening.

And Donovan wouldn't be the guy I wanted but I used him because seems to be a popular choice. I honestly don't want Donovan as I've stated before I don't want a coach here that has won a championship somewhere else just from a petty standpoint.

Like if Cal would have won a championship at Memphis then 2012 would feel a little different for me. I like that he came here and won his first. I get thats probably a weird way of thinking but like I said it's just a petty personal preference. I'd rather take a risk on somebody other than Billy D.

Looks pretty good, and he’s got a lot of experience so that’ll help. I think he could really help us inside and would be a great backup addition. If MM leaves, I’ve saw a lot worse starting centers than this guy so I say lock him up.

Mark pope must be the greatest big man coach in America if Moreno goes first round. 8 points a game ave. Started the season third string, , To NBA draft.. Their you have it.
Agree
Moreno may develop in a few years, but now he is abused by routine college players. Doesn't he have a young kid? I would think he would want to stay around the kid, mother and family another year.

What about Mohammed Faye as replacement?

Edit: That sounded snippy towards the other poster. It wasn’t meant to be. Just didn’t have long to type when I said that, apologies.
Or he can come back for 4 million, be one of the best bigs in SEC and the country. Then, get be a lottery pick in next year’s draft and make MUCH more money.

God another "hidden gem", "oozing potential", "top 10 pick 2027".

No thanks, let's just not lose Moreno. Hell if Moreno wants to get away from Pope, ******* fire Pope, give Moreno his salary, and let him coach the damn team for all I care.
But he "could be good"
