Looks like hurley is gone at AZ state
The big freshman center looks very good
If he goes to portal he is one to land
Blocks shots, rebounds and can score as well as runs the floor

Based on my limited research, I don't see a guy on Yaxel 's level this portal cycle.
When you say elite I take that as a borderline pro.
My definition certainly doesn’t have to be Yaxel level or higher. When I say elite, I’m more referring to function. A power forward who is a threat to make the three at a high enough clip to keep the offensive spacing, but can drive and create, score at least some in a pinch low post and a versatile defender/rebounder. I don’t care what rank he is on some chart.

The last big we got from ASU really didn't work out. LOL! Granted Pope knew about the injury.

Injuries just seem to be an issue with Pope. Heck, we even see a UK player twist his ankle on Pope's foot.

no im saying not getting a portal center bc moreno is there is crazy

get a big and push bg out the door
Agree, send Garrison packing
The big guy from asu is related to the coach of dink pate, I think
Would be a good package to land
Are we going to do this again with every player who might possibly enter the portal?
Uk needs complete overhaul of talent, so yes everyone is up for discussion.
Not interested, don't read and reply

Can we put Pope and six magnificent assistants in the transfer portal? At discount..

You pretty much described Kam Williams.

Maybe scouting injuries is something some coaches do. Idk. Just saying

The whole Pprtal thing lasts too long. Guys already probably being contacted. Lots of them are offered and signed up before they even declare they are in the Portal. Then everyone thinks they got a shot but they don’t. Others stay in for a couple months, trying to drive up price.

Kam Williams doesn't drive or create, nor is he a good enough rebounder at the 4. I really like Kam as a small-ball four in spurts but he is a 3. The player I described is a versatile power forward who can play traditional role or modern style and can handle the burden of more possessions. I'm looking for a 10-12ppg, 6-8rpg kind of guy who is similar to Andrew Carr but more slashing and more efficient shooting.

I don't care about their NBA upside --- the fact that matters to college basketball fans blows my mind personally. I assume we will already have guys with NBA upside, we need really, really good college players who can perfectly fit their role.

It's a shorter window now.

Fingers crossed Hawthorne is a solid (albeit skinny) 4 when all is said and done and becomes difficult to keep off the floor. I think we probably need a Veteran 4 in the mold of Carr but not necessarily a stud, and maybe not even then if Jelavic develops. But production and shooting from the 4 spot has to improve since we don't have an offensive minded Center really either. But if there is a stud 4 in the portal, you swing the bat regardless. I just don't have faith we get a stud at the 4. (similarly I don't think we get a stud at PG either is Lowe comes back for the same reason Lewis decommitted) There is competition at the 4 (not elite competition) but enough to make recruits think twice about battling for it with guys that have already been here and developed a relationship with the staff. Of course I'm only considering the current roster and not entertaining how getting someone like Stokes or Pate or Kieta would reshape things. Definitely need a backup Center regardless, unless we are riding with Garrison again. Or Potter becomes next man up. Honestly I think Oweh's starter spot and minutes, Aberdeen's starter/6th man spot and minutes (whether or not Chandler fills the starter side at the 2 guard or the 6th man role is up for debate), and a backup PG are the most enticing for targets.

I know everyone is doom and gloom about recruiting. But the team honestly doesn't "need" that much. We certainly "want" everything though. And recruiting and portal misses suck. This current team as constructed has issues, severely exposed by injuries. But I do like the core of players and their potential as long as they are used in their intended role. Just frustrating watching us get out hearted by inferior teams.

Many people just see the current product and think returning a bunch of guys means you return the same production for the most part, and so people are naturally frustrated. I agree with everything you said in this post -- well thought-out and nice structure.

Kam gives you a better shooter and just as good of a rebounder than Jelly.
Better defender also.
Kam absolutely works as a starting four especially with Stokes at the three.
Kam is a three if he gets to the next level and can give minutes at the three but he doesn't do the things Oweh does.
If Kam ends up the starter at the three, UK has had a bad spring recruiting wise

I'm a little higher on Kam's upside at the three but I respect where you are coming from. I'm not sure how I feel about Stokes at this point.

Yeah Stokes is all hypothetical at this point but if he does come, you will have to recruit Kam back to the team IMO.
He will definitely want to know what Pope's plan is for him.
If Stokes is on board, at least one of the forwards hits the portal.
Same with Pate if he comes, one of Colin or JJ leaves.

He could sign the top ranked player at each position and the team will still be soft, pedestrian, and ultimately underachieve.

I thought Dink Pate signed an NBA contract. If so, doesn't that put him in the Bediako category?

Pate is a point guard, should have no effect on shooting guards
