Just craziness. Hope they can snag an elite qb
I will be very surprised if we land an “elite” portal QB. We’re not in a situation most of those guys are looking for. Our best bet is to get a guy who got beat out at his previous school…. IF I was a betting man, I would bet Chubba is our starter next fall.

Maybe the kid that’s leaving Michigan st would like a little revenge or I’m going to a better place

This with a small stat line and eligibility remaining would be sweet

While it would be nice to get one, we don't need an elite portal QB. But I believe we need at least one competent portal QB. Isn't Purdy having groin surgery any day now? Seems he is always injured somehow. IMHO the room would be better with another guy to compete with Purdy and step in if he gets hurt again. Purdy or a portal guy need to hold the reigns until Kaelin gets up to speed. Would also be nice if Woche and/or Longval could make a move.

Sluka looks like a better passing and running version of HH. Completion % above 60 his senior year. 4:1 TD to INT ratio. FCS and only has 1 year left is downside.

I would think they are looking for someone that has 2 to 3 years of eligibility left just for stability’s sake. They might be able to get this kid a little cheaper though to free up money on WR, OT or RB. This is going to be interesting to see how all this plays out.

I'm convinced that Sims never intended to play much football here this season. It's the only explanation as to how someone could be so unprepared in every facet of the game. Playbook, timing, ball security, passing mechanics.

Don't know why he came here -- maybe we have a good program in his major, maybe he came to chase split tail, maybe to eat Runzas, but he certainly didn't come here to play football.
I was thinking the same conspiracy. Is Sims “done” with football, and decided to take the Nebraska NIL gravy train for “one last wild ride” before he sells insurance the rest of his life?

So what the hvac company gets its money back from decoldest because he didn’t play?

It’s not a contract. It’s an appearance fee.

Usually works out - the best players have a higher value name/image/likeness and are compensated thusly
This is the crux of the matter regarding 'NIL Market Value' vs. what they're actually getting paid...

Arch Manning being worth $3.whatever Million, vs what he's been paid thus far for some cleanup work last week are probably very different.... these are odds against their probable PT and performance over time. I'm guessing. Maybe straight-up AI-generated drivel... but maybe it's super accurate. Who knows. It's an imperfect metric, but there it is. Win some, lose some, but Championship-caliber teams take these risks. All of them do. If we wanna compete, we're gonna need to take some RISKS on unproven Talent.

Proven Talent is the same way. This guy @ Holy Cross stats will change measurably once he competes against bigger, more talented schools, obviously... seems like a really good pick for a backup QB on paper and compete against the guy with elite talent on paper who we're paying more? Think we need more than one this offseason, either way. One injury and we're back to incompetence.

This also makes our selection of Sims last year all the more confusing. He sucked before, was moving to a more competitive conference.... odds were he was gonna suck even more. Didn't let us down.

Woche is NOT an option. He’s not an NAIA QB. I agree that we should try to get a portal QB but I’m very skeptical that we’ll land the kind of guy people think we can get. Even IF we do get a guy, you’ve got the whole learning curve to deal with.

Purdy has shown the ability to run our offense without getting practice reps. He’s a capable QB if he can stay healthy. The guy has the tools you can only hope to get in a portal QB. You better hope he doesn’t leave.

I've got nothing against Purdy and I thought he was easily our most productive QB and put in a difficult position and performed admirably. I'd like him to stay and compete, he would make a decent backup QB. However there is ZERO chance they don't bring in a QB that is better than him. I've been on record after seeing HH and Sims perform in a few games that Nebraska will dip into the portal for 2 QB's.

You lost me at zero chance of them bringing in a QB better than him. We are not an attractive spot right now for a top QB. That’s the problem. IF we get a talented guy it will be somebody who is destined to be second team next fall at his existing school. I firmly believe that when healthy Purdy w could start for a lot of P5 programs.

I think we need to retain both Purdy and Haarberg if for no other reason than their knowledge of the offense. Starting completely over in that room would be a problem IMO.

Healthy purdy has already started for 2 P5 teams.

He’s never won a single game for either in 4 years.

He can’t handle it.

The hot tub business might suit him.

You’re so predictable. So will you at least admit you didn’t know what the hell you were talking about when you said he had a noodle arm and couldn’t run?

I never said he couldn’t run. Its the only way he moved the ball last year.

And he’s had a noodle arm until this year. I’m glad it looked better.

The results, however? Those were the same.

Maybe by year 7 in college he’ll finally produce that first W
