Tennessee had two players that can scope. Ament and Gillespie…they score 19 and 14 many of which are open looks. No intensity or focus on defense…again

And that end of half fiasco…the game clock and shot clock are second apart…no timeout just shoot t a crap jumper and let Tennessee have a long clock out which ends in two ft

I do not think anyone gets pissed because Kentucky (Pope) wins. I am pretty sure everyone is excited the Cats won and are only a game back in the SEC. The issue is why do we only show up for half the game. It is playing with fire. Eventually, we will get burned. As I have said repeatedly, Pope's strength is getting this team to stay together and keep battling. However, it is very frustrating to watch this team play first half basketball. As good as the second half was, the first half was just as bad. He deserves all the credit for keeping this team a float, but he also deserves credit for this team not being ready to play in the first half of several games this year. I think Pope will admit that too. It is a message board. Try to have a little fun.

Regardless of the comeback, I think the OP is right, which is probably worse than having a guy like Gillespie who is just a straight up trainwreck. I say that because Mitch has no nuts and will gladly keep a guy just making sweet 16’s (hell he put in Pope deal that he gets another year to his deal just for making S16’s). Atleast with a trainwreck Mitch’s hand gets forced to make a move.

This is what you get Mediocre Coach, yeah he is good if you want a sweet 16 or maybe an elite 8 every 4 years but will never win a national championship here
Swept a ranked Tennessee with 3 starters missing......Beat Pitino and ranked St. Johns, Beat ranked Arkansas at their place as well.

Pope accomplished all of this with 3 missing starters!!! Whats dukes record with 3 missing starters, or any other team for that matter? What say you?

First of all, I don’t want to diminish another terrific, hard fought win vs YouTee last night, it’s always glorious to beat the ugly orange!!
That being said, I’m not sure the OP’s statement is inaccurate. The warts are definitely there.
We also got completely embarrassed against Michigan State, Gonzaga and, of all teams, Vanderbilt. One of the “starters” people keep mentioning wasn’t a starter all year in Quaintance. Pope basically took a chance on him and we gave him a ton of NIL money because no one else would - and we got about 25 minutes of game time for our investment.
This roster, starting out the year was terribly flawed for Pope’s style of play, but, to his credit, he has “manufactured“ a gritty, tough team that, outside of the Vandy debacle, has been terrific since SEC play started. I don’t think anyone can complain about how hard we played and competed the entire game against the Hogs and in the second half last night.

As it’s been said over and over though, recruiting is the major, major issue for Pope right now. If he cannot land any top level freshman talent, I don’t think we will compete for titles.

Kam Williams and Jayden Quintance cannot really be considered starters for this team. Kam Williams started 36.8% percent of the games this year. So when healthy, he started about a third of the time. The coaches knew Jayden Quaintance was a question mark at best to play this year, so they should of had a back up plan for him. I agree Jaland Lowe was a starter and impacted the season. However, we went to Vanderbilt and was beaten 80-55 by a team without a player averaging 16.6 points per game. We were told by Pope that this team's strength was it's depth. We have actually played better since these 3 players have been ruled out. The issue with this team is for some reason they are typically not ready to play at the start of games. If they play defense in the first half like they do in the second half, this team would be a fan favorite.

He is only here in-game during what is trending towards a loss and he always starts a thread. The very definition of a drive-by troll.

How about this? Missing 3 of their top 8 players. How would any of the top teams do? That fair?

Top level freshman talent hasn’t won for anyone since 2015 stop with this nonsense it’s a new era

I didn’t say the entire team would be “all” top level freshman talent but “some” of it still has to be. Go take a look at the rankings this week. The top 10 or 15 teams are littered with top freshman and one of those teams will VERY likely win the championship this year. You’re right in your statement that its a new era, but that new era is going to be a combination of the transfer portal AND great freshman players. If Pope can’t start landing at least a few super freshman, we won’t compete for titles, it’s just that simple.

Well guess what we got 2 5 stars on this team. 1 5 star freshman has won a championship in the last 10 years. Would much rather see pope retain and develop players like jasper and Moreno

It is all subjective with this roster. I am not sure you could rank this roster 1 through 12. None of them are superstars and it really doesn't matter who is available. I think the results have been proven with that this year. The Alabama game the Cats were fully healthy and were embarrassed. The Arkansas game the Cats were limited with players and looked like a tournament team. I think the injury excuse just does not apply to this team. If this team only had 8 players that were significantly better than the rest, then yes it would make a difference. Pope even said this team was built to deal with injuries.
