Hopefully tied so some recruiting through the NBA Africa Academy.
I actually like the staff Pope has put together.
I met him a couple of years ago in Africa. Very good dude.
Love it if it gets us into that pipeline. Better than the euro stuff imo. Hopefully seals up Cheriff
I have no opinion. Hope it turns out well
Kinda wish he hired a defensive-minded coach. He really needs someone to help with his most obvious weakness.
Did he express interest in coaching in America, especially at Kentucky ?? Just curious ... ???

He is a defensive guy so hate to burst your pope hate bubble. Was a beast on d at UCLA in his days.
Hope it works out but NGL I was really hoping for Jared Prickett to get the spot.
Also ties to Uvwo and Cheriff apparently. Doubt we get Uvwo but Cheriff would be a good backup plan. He played under Ben Howland at UCLA.
So he could coach them to offensive rebound their missed layups??

i guess this is pope waving the white flag on trying to recruit elite US players and will focus on international guys who are probably more receptive to his shtick.

he was hired on april 13th....exactly 180 days or 6 months. must have a lot of bags....
And id wait on unpacking. They all may be packing come April 2027.
Where did you see this hiring date ?? I have researched and couldn't find anything to support that date.. Everything I've seen says his hiring was 10/10/26.
You know the 27 class is the first one he is recruiting really right? He helped lock up Alex Wilkins btw and Hampton. Also brought our backup PG with him that is going to be very very good.
I am encouraged and hopeful about his hiring:

thats it? a 3 star PG, a guy from furman and another guy who dropped 20+ spots. talk about moving the goalposts. standards keep getting less and less.

Recent visit and this hire seems to suggest immediate influence.
I’d take Cheriff if this gets it done. Wouldn’t expect kamagate but that’s another huge connection. He’s a monster.
If that's the case we should bring in that Reese chick from the WNBA. Nobody bricks more layups than her.
To be fair, none of this really matters if we suck this year. Pope is gone with another poor performant year. If this new assistant coach can stave off our weaknesses on defense, then that might be helpful. If not, it’ll be a short stay.

Uvwo just shut his recruitment down after our pitch so that’s a good sign. No more visits as suspected.
There are many great international players now. It’s good to have a staff with some connections on it.
