I'm sorry but we have a lot of talent and cal still doesn't know who is on his rotation. His loyalty to briscoe is driving this team. In a game like this you go with the hot hand and it was mulder. This team under pressure plays poorly. Can't count on monk every game and this team is not headed in the right direction. Wo out his out of this world performance we would be 0-3 against the ranked teams on the schedule. I don't buy the wait til march argument. We are light and with a physical 5* talent on the bench not developing on SKJ...we ll like I've been saying we don't have it. UL will be a 4 seed in the tourney. I'll prepared team and the wrong guys on the floor. Go ahead and pump that positive stuff but it's not reality

No idea Briscoe missed 10 free throws
No idea Briscoe shot from 3 at 5 / 22....
Briscoe was 1-5 FG and Adel had his best scoring game...so I don't see any idea what Briscoe adds to the UK team in halfcourt to the tune of 34 mpg. Why Mulder can't eat into 15 mpg is beyond me? We need more shooting especially on a night when Monk is off.

You have to change the defense when you can't stop the other teams point guard! We switch Everytime and have Bam guarding the ball handler away from the basket.

Coaching didn't lose the game but Cal better teach them to defend the pick and roll at the top of the key or teams are going to kill us all year with it. The good thing is this game is early and we have time to learn. Also this game doesn't mean anything in the big picture. it's not like football where the game changes your season.

Adel had best scoring game? Snider killed us, not Adel. He did help so.

Also, you assume that everything scored against Briscoe....

And i don't disagree about Mulder not playing more. But it's moot point. Briscoe isn't the reason why we lost.

Yep bad shooting cost UK the game.

Why is it when UK loses its either Cal can't coach or the refs blew it for them?

Adel scored 18 pts (and shot a good percentage) and 6 boards. 22 for Snider for sure was the best player for UL but Adel was right behind for best player for UL.

I'm not blaming Briscoe as we just had an all around awful shooting night at 3pt and FT line. But running a guy out there that shoots as bad as Briscoe is going to kill UK all year long as games won't usually be full court. He was 1-5 and his 1 make was a layup off of a loose ball. He was plain awful again in a halfcourt game...and to play the major minutes he does and lack of production is eye opening when Mulder can't shoot 3pt shots

The constant switching on defense causes us issues and puts us into mismatches on perimeter and the post. We cannot defend a pick and roll to save out ***. Get one rebound at the end and even with everything that happened we likely would have won. This team seems to lack toughness and grit. Rather be Hollywood than down and dirty. Down and dirty beat Hollywood tonight.

Agreed. I thought our biggest issue tonight was the inability to defend the pick and roll. Snyder came off of every screen with a step on his defender. Killed us all night.

To me it wasn't free throws, wasn't poor shot selection, it was inability to defend screen and roll.

This is absolutely definitively on the coach. Give a good coach like Pitino this talent and U.K. Would have 2 more titles by now and would have won big tonight. The talent gap is that big between the two teams.

The reason for the talent gap is because one coach is really good at his job of getting the best players. You do know that it's part of the coaches job don't you. Pitino can't get the players because he would have them on the bench confused and wondering why they are not playing. Recruiting and in game coaching are both part of the job. Both are really good at one aspect of the job. There are not many coach K's in the history of the game that can do both on an elite level.

If he's a good coach why would you need to give him something? Your guy just won his second game against Cal in ten attempts, that is not the sign of a good coach.

In so many threads, there's talk of improving against the pick and roll. Why does it take so long to learn basketball101? Maybe it's youth or maybe they're not quick enough to pull off what's been put in place. Even so, Monk won't often go 1-9 and Willis won't often miss all 2/3 wide open looks he had. Throw in Fox's 6-10 FTs and well you lose.
The Cats likely won't shoot this poorly again all year. Too bad it was against UL.

OP is giving UMM a run for its money when it comes to terrible takes.

Coaching didn't lose the game idiot. Missing 10 free throws and Monk being cold killed us.

This game was lost in everything that has been done until now. They are ill prepared and it showed today. We are light and that's not gonna change by march. We ll kill it in the sec and everyone will say "see??". I'm not buying it. It's not about a ****** or whatever anyone want to say, idiot being the best word. Imo cal lost his edge a bit after the 2015 season. I think it drained him and he's become a hair complacent. This top two team is now going to likely be 8th to 10th in the country. Not good going into sec play.

When you lose a close game, it is any of the above. The good news is it's early and we have plenty of time to make the players lear from their mistakes. We need to trust each other more. Willis isn't getting enough shots when he is in the game. Part of that is on him, and a lot of it is on his freshmen teammates not considering him as much a threat at their classmates. Willis has no excuse for not getting more rebounds it requires intensity and effort. This loss is something to learn from and I believe we will.

Even though you have the most talent, most of that talent is still less than a year removed from high school basketball. I guess being down one at the half against some guy Elon is better than losing a game to a top 10 team on the road. These guys are freshman coming off a three day rest against a top 10 run and gun team. The sky is not falling. At least until March.

Three guard lineup for Cats is tough because Briscoe and Fox can't shoot from outside.
