Poor play calling on our last possession.

MG pissed himself in the biggest moment. He may have been a big fish in a small pond, but at this level, he’s not a starter. KF somehow ruins QBs mentally. I have 0 faith we can win more than 4 games. Our defense is ok but can’t create turnovers and carry us like in years pass. We have a tougher schedule. Everyone is getting better and evolving. We are stuck in the mud.

We made it too easy for the Cyclone defense on that last possession. At least put a running back in the backfield. Roll Gron out to give the play some options. We couldn't throw downfield all day, no reason to think we would on the last drive.
It’s been that way for forever and it’s so infuriating. Back in the day, Morehouse and Dochterman coined the term “pass pro arrogance” to describe it.

For the longest time I kicked the can to the QBs and the OCs, this is now 100% on KF.
Sorry, but Brian was lost/clueless as an OC. Supposedly NFL teams were drooling at the opportunity to hire him as a position ‘whisperer’….LOL.

No, you aren't the only one. Our WRs didn't execute and our special team's miscues were killer.
Wetjen, who was awful today, was responsible for the pick that led to ISU's only TD. How many drops from the WRs and TEs?

Grono isn't who we all expected him to be, but I don't think today was on him at all. Without his legs, the game was never close.

I agree, iirc there was about 1:50 on the clock after the kickoff, correct??

I would have tried to seal the edge and roll Grono out to the side with at least two receivers running 10+ yard routes. Then Grono can run or pass making sure to get out of bounds, get positive yards.

The running back in the backfield can help block at first but then be and underneath receiver.

This needed to be true RPO where th OLine pass blocks and Grono rolls out. With running out of bounds or throwing the ball for 1st downs you can get a lot of plays off in 1:50

Am I alone in thinking this isn't MGs fault?
I am with you on this, our first drive was poor trying the run the ball with no hint of passing. And early on there were a couple of drops. I think on our 2nd possession Gill dropped a well thrown ball that would have been our first first down

We only had one ad lib by a wide receiver that got open after Grono moved around to keep the play going.

Iowa has no vertical passing game period. Where is the OC? ISU saw this early on and turned every pass completion into typically only a 4-5 yard gain. Our wide-outs have no clue where the first down sticks are and consistently ran curl routs on third down that were short of the first down marker. Finally, with less than 2 minutes remaining with no timeouts and needing a score you simply can't take a sack let alone two in a row.

It’s not all his fault but he certainly hasn’t been good so far. I mean he was thinking NFL last season. He doesn’t look good.
Big mistake on his part using another year at Iowa to get his shoulder repaired for the NFL. Iowa is where QBs go to start their downward spiral.
